NORMAN, OKLA. – James Hackett, a senior executive with more than 20 years of experience in the energy sector, is speaking at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 7, at Price Hall, 307 W. Brooks St., on the University of Oklahoma Norman campus. Hackett is presenting as part of the Michael F. Price College of Business distinguished speaker series.

The fireside chat format, to be held in Dodson Lounge on the first floor of Price Hall, will feature Hackett and Price College Dean Daniel Pullin conversing about a variety of topics, with follow-up questions from the audience. A reception with light refreshments will follow.

The event is open to the public with complimentary admission.

Hackett is executive chairman and interim CEO of Alta Mesa Resources, a NASDAQ-listed independent oil, gas and NGL producer, gatherer, processor and transporter. He also is a senior adviser in Riverstone Holdings LLC, a large, private energy investment firm.

Hackett is the former chairman and CEO of Anadarko Petroleum Corp., a large, global oil and natural gas exploration, production, and midstream company.

Before joining Anadarko, Hackett served as president and chief operating officer of Devon Energy Corp. following its merger with Ocean Energy, where he served as chairman, president and CEO. He joined Seagull from Duke Energy, where was president of its Energy Services division.

His energy experience includes positions in engineering, finance and marketing in E&P, midstream, power and oilfield services. He is a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers and the National Petroleum Council, which he formerly chaired.

Hackett also is the director of Fluor Corp., Enterprise Products Partners L.P., and National Oilwell Varco, all of which are Fortune 500 public companies. He is a former chairman of the board of the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas. Hackett is a board member, and former chairman, of the Baylor College of Medicine and Rice University, where he served as a faculty member for many years. He currently serves on the undergraduate Liberal Arts Honors and graduate business school faculties at the University of Texas at Austin.

He holds a bachelor of science degree from the University of Illinois as well as an MBA and a master in theological studies degree from Harvard University.
