Who we are

Energies Media is an English-language publication covering energy, industry and the environment, published at energiesmedia.com. This website is owned and operated by Impalajump Ltd. (“we”, “us”, “our”), whose CEO and owner is Carlos Albero Rojas. Energies Media is part of an editorial group that also publishes The Pulse and GCN.

This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, share and protect information when you visit Energies Media. If you have any questions, contact us at [email protected].

Information we collect

When you use Energies Media, we and our partners may collect the following categories of information:

  • Identifiers and device information — IP address, device type, operating system, browser type, and, in hashed (non-readable) form, an email address if you provide one.
  • Internet and network activity — pages viewed, links clicked, referring pages, time spent, and similar analytics data.
  • Approximate location — a general location derived from your IP address (not precise GPS).
  • Advertising and inference data — information used by advertising partners to deliver interest-based advertising, including inferences drawn about your likely interests.

We do not intentionally collect sensitive personal information (such as government identifiers, financial account numbers, precise geolocation, or health data), and we do not knowingly collect information from children (see “Children’s privacy” below).

How we collect information

We collect information: (a) directly from you when you contact us or interact with the site; (b) automatically through cookies, pixels and similar technologies as you browse; and (c) from third parties such as our advertising and analytics partners.

How we use information

We use information to operate and improve Energies Media, to measure and analyze traffic, to deliver and personalize advertising, to maintain security and prevent fraud, and to comply with our legal obligations.

Cookies and tracking technologies

Energies Media uses first-party and third-party cookies and similar technologies. First-party cookies are set by this website; third-party cookies are set by our partners (for example, our advertising provider). You can control or delete cookies through your browser settings, although some features of the site may not work correctly without them.

Advertising partners

We work with Mediavine to manage third-party, interest-based advertising on Energies Media. The section below is provided by Mediavine and describes the data collected, the partners involved, and the industry opt-out tools available to you.

Mediavine Programmatic Advertising (Ver 1.1)

The Website works with Mediavine to manage third-party interest-based advertising appearing on the Website. Mediavine serves content and advertisements when you visit the Website, which may use first and third-party cookies. A cookie is a small text file which is sent to your computer or mobile device (referred to in this policy as a “device”) by the web server so that a website can remember some information about your browsing activity on the Website.

First party cookies are created by the website that you are visiting. A third-party cookie is frequently used in behavioral advertising and analytics and is created by a domain other than the website you are visiting. Third-party cookies, tags, pixels, beacons and other similar technologies (collectively, “Tags”) may be placed on the Website to monitor interaction with advertising content and to target and optimize advertising. Each internet browser has functionality so that you can block both first and third-party cookies and clear your browser’s cache. The “help” feature of the menu bar on most browsers will tell you how to stop accepting new cookies, how to receive notification of new cookies, how to disable existing cookies and how to clear your browser’s cache. For more information about cookies and how to disable them, you can consult the information at All About Cookies.

Without cookies you may not be able to take full advantage of the Website content and features. Please note that rejecting cookies does not mean that you will no longer see ads when you visit our Site. In the event you opt-out, you will still see non-personalized advertisements on the Website.

The Website collects the following data using a cookie when serving personalized ads:

  • IP Address
  • Operating System type
  • Operating System version
  • Device Type
  • Language of the website
  • Web browser type
  • Email (in hashed form)

Mediavine Partners (companies listed below with whom Mediavine shares data) may also use this data to link to other end user information the partner has independently collected to deliver targeted advertisements. Mediavine Partners may also separately collect data about end users from other sources, such as advertising IDs or pixels, and link that data to data collected from Mediavine publishers in order to provide interest-based advertising across your online experience, including devices, browsers and apps. This data includes usage data, cookie information, device information, information about interactions between users and advertisements and websites, geolocation data, traffic data, and information about a visitor’s referral source to a particular website. Mediavine Partners may also create unique IDs to create audience segments, which are used to provide targeted advertising.

If you would like more information about this practice and to know your choices to opt-in or opt-out of this data collection, please visit National Advertising Initiative opt out page. You may also visit Digital Advertising Alliance website and Network Advertising Initiative website to learn more information about interest-based advertising. You may download the AppChoices app at Digital Advertising Alliance’s AppChoices app to opt out in connection with mobile apps, or use the platform controls on your mobile device to opt out.

For specific information about Mediavine Partners, the data each collects and their data collection and privacy policies, please visit Mediavine Partners.

Your U.S. privacy rights

Depending on where you live, U.S. state privacy laws — including the California Consumer Privacy Act, as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act (CCPA/CPRA), and comparable laws in Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Utah and other states — give you rights over your personal information. Subject to those laws, you may have the right to:

  • Know and access the categories and specific pieces of personal information we have collected about you.
  • Delete personal information we have collected from you.
  • Correct inaccurate personal information.
  • Opt out of the “sale” or “sharing” of your personal information and of targeted (interest-based) advertising.
  • Limit the use of any sensitive personal information.
  • Non-discrimination — we will not deny you service or charge you a different price for exercising these rights.

To exercise any of these rights, email us at [email protected]. You may use an authorized agent to submit a request on your behalf; we may need to verify your identity before responding. We will respond within the timeframes required by applicable law (generally within 45 days, extendable where permitted).

“Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information”

Energies Media does not sell your personal information for money. However, the use of cookies and similar technologies for interest-based advertising may be considered a “sale” or “sharing” of personal information under some U.S. state laws. You can opt out of interest-based advertising at any time using the industry tools listed in the Mediavine section above (the NAI, DAA and AppChoices tools), and, if you are a resident of California or another covered state, by contacting us at [email protected].

Global Privacy Control (GPC)

Where required by law, we recognize opt-out preference signals such as the Global Privacy Control (GPC) transmitted by your browser or device, and will treat a valid GPC signal as a request to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information for that browser or device.

Children’s privacy

Energies Media is intended for a general audience and is not directed to children under 13. Consistent with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us at [email protected] and we will take appropriate steps to delete it.

Data retention

We retain personal information only for as long as necessary for the purposes described in this policy or as required by law. Data collected by our advertising and analytics partners is retained in accordance with their own policies.

Data security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect the information we handle. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, however, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Visitors outside the United States

Energies Media is operated primarily for a U.S. audience. If you access the site from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or another region with data-protection laws, our advertising partner’s consent-management tools will request your consent where required, and you may contact us at [email protected] to exercise any rights you have under those laws.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
