HomeBiogas, an Israeli waste-to-energy company, has recently announced a significant milestone, securing its first contract with the United States Air Force. This groundbreaking partnership marks a major step forward in sustainable energy solutions for military and defense operations.
Under the agreement, HomeBiogas will supply 20 off-grid toilet systems to be deployed to a remote Pacific Island US Air Force base, demonstrating the technology’s suitability for challenging environments.
The HomeBiogas Bio-Toilet system addresses a pressing need for sustainable human waste management solutions at remote military installations with no sewage connection. Currently, many off-grid US military bases use metal collection tanks for human waste, which are later burned, causing environmental pollution and health concerns from smoke inhalation.

The HomeBiogas solution is uniquely suited for remote, infrastructure-limited environments. It features a specialized design toilet equipped with a foot-operated pump mechanism that transports the human waste into a biodigester system. Inside the digester, anaerobic bacteria break down the waste, producing methane gas that can be used for cooking or heating water.
