Texas Consultancy Develops AI to Address Project Challenges in the U.S. Energy Sector

Houston 5013c nonprofit organization, Black Girls Do Engineer is a powerful social-educational movement bringing thousands of girls and young women of color into S.T.E.M. education, and ultimately S.T.E.M. careers; through providing exposure, informational resources, hands-on education, and representation.

Founded by renowned Chemical Engineer, activist and speaker, Kara Branch, and led by experienced S.T.E.M. professionals, BGDE, founded in 2019, has already achieved the following milestones:

3,000 girls K through college served to date

$44K in college scholarships awarded to BGDE student members

200 workshops and trainings hosted since 2019

60% of the girls that the BGDE program serves come from underserved communities

BGDE is the first and only nonprofit to be accepted into Greentown Labs Accelerator in Houston

Additionally, BGDE offers a nationwide virtual program for all girls, ages K through college

 BLACK GIRLS DO ENGINEER 2nd Annual S.T.E.M. Day in Houston

Black Girls Do Engineer, dubbed “The Ivy League of Nonprofits” will hold its 2nd Annual S.T.E.M. Day For Girls in grades 3 through 12, Saturday, March 2nd at Young Women’s College Preparatory Academy in downtime Houston. The event, put on by Houston-based 501c3 nonprofit Black Girls Do Engineer, is designed to bring more girls of color into S.T.E.M. education, and ultimately S.T.E.M. careers, through resources, exposure and representation.

Last year’s 1st Annual S.T.E.M. Day for Girls in Houston had an attendance of 100 girls ages 8 – 17, and this year’s 2nd Annual S.T.E.M. Day For Girls is expected to have 150+ girls, also ages 8 – 17, in attendance.

The Day’s Itinerary Will Be As Follows

Door open at 8:45am

Welcome Breakfast: 9:00 – 9:15am

Expert Panel Discussion with Q&A: 9:15 – 9:45am

Student Break: 9:45 – 10:00am

Instructor Led S.T.E.M. Activities/Labs: 10:00am – 12 noon

Lunch: 12:00 – 12:45pm

Program Close and Dismissal 12:45pm – 1pm

The day’s program will include 11 hands-on S.T.E.M. activities focused on the disciplines of Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, Robotics, A.I., and Coding with students separated by grade/age level.

During the panel discussion working professionals in the S.T.E.M. fields will share their expertise, insights and advice with student attendees. Additionally, student attendees will be able to ask panelists questions regarding their experiences as women of color in S.T.E.M. careers.

“The mission of Black Girls Do Engineer,” says founder and CEO Kara Branch, “is to provide resources, access, awareness and representation to girls and young women of color; opening them up to the possibilities for a future in S.T.E.M., and allowing them to see a clear pathway to success in these fields.”
