Alloy 718 API 6ACRA for the oil industry—high strength, corrosion resistance, and other properties of this alloy

What should you know about Alloy 718 API 6ACRA for the oil industry? It is an alloy used in the oil industry. It can also be processed at moderate temperatures. However, it is important to dissolve it first by heat treatment. It is characterized by very high resistance at temperatures lower than 675 degrees Celsius.

The physical and mechanical properties of this alloy depend largely on where it is used, whether it has been previously processed, and under what conditions it is then used. For example, the mechanical properties are influenced by the method of heat treatment—different values of strength and plasticity apply to bars produced from this alloy by hot rolling or annealing at different temperatures and additionally aging.

The great advantage of this alloy is its resistance to organic acids, salts, and alkalis, as well as to seawater. It is also highly resistant to oxidation, nitriding, sulfidation, and carburizing.

The alloy also has a high level of resistance to intergranular stress corrosion cracking, which can occur in water at a temperature of 300-350 degrees Celsius.

The great advantage of this alloy is its high weldability. It is considered one of the best alloys in this respect. Importantly, it has a very high resistance to cracking after welding. It can be welded using the welding material ENRiFeCr-2 and ERNiCr-3, but the latter one may negatively affect the tensile properties of the alloy.

Applications of Alloy 718 uns N07718

There are many high strength applications for which API 6ACRA is recognized. Alloy 718, 2.4668, and more specifically, the API 6ACRA version is intended for devices that extract oil and gas. It is also an alloy used in the production of elements necessary for the construction of aircraft. We are talking about wheels, buckets, and spacers as well as screws and other parts of turbine engines, etc.

This particular alloy is supplied in the form of bars, rods, and forgings.
