2026 is set to become one of the most monumental years for the United States when it comes to generating energy, as it has invested in a multitude of projects that are all highly likely to deliver as promised. In the latest development, Altus Power expanded its Midwest footprint with the purchase of 105 MW solar projects that are currently under construction in Minnesota.

A general overview of Altus Power’s promising solar energy initiative

Altus Power is a leading clean energy-producing corporation that was founded in 2009 and is based in Stamford, Connecticut. The United States is one of the few nations that can rely on its local companies rather than foreign ones when developing energy projects. The corporation owns, develops, and operates rooftop, ground, and carport-based solar systems. As of 2024, it was widely acknowledged as the largest owner of commercial-scale solar in the US, which is a historic feat to obtain. As such, it has followed up on that recognition and continued to develop large-scale projects with the intent of solidifying its position at the top.

In its latest acquisition of 105 MW solar projects under construction, Altus Power is actively evaluating its growth strategy in the Midwest region. Additionally, it is displaying a desire to support clean energy deployment and deliver long-term electricity to communities.

105 MW of solar projects: Altus Power strategically expands into solar development

The solar projects acquired by Altus Power are currently under construction by Cordelio Power, which is a prominent, independent power producer. The development consists of four ground-mounted solar installations that are situated in New York. While there is a lot in store for the general population who will reap the rewards of solar energy, Altus Power is also a massive beneficiary as it gets to amplify its over 600 projects. The energy industry is increasingly built upon companies that have a good reputation, as a variety of countries all rely on the same companies to execute large-scale developments.

According to a wide range of reports, the projects under construction are all set to gain from 20-year Renewable Energy Standard (RES) contracts with the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA), which is able to guarantee revenue and back the state’s clean energy objectives.

Analyzing the solar energy landscape in Minnesota and how it might transform

Minnesota is recognized as a growing market for solar energy and ranks 16th in the entire United States, as it provided about 5% of the state’s total electricity in 2024. It has over 1900 MW of utility-scale capacity across 538 farms. The latest development is going to strengthen the solar energy array in the state. For instance, Altus Power also purchased a portfolio of community solar projects in Minnesota that have been operating since2019 under the Community Solar Garden Program, providing reliable solar power to local businesses.

Looking ahead at the future of solar energy production in the United States

The increasing relevance of solar energy in the United States is due to the nation’s active push to reduce carbon emissions and diversify energy portfolios. The 105 MW acquisition made by Altus Power is representative of a noticeable trend in the US where corporations are exploiting their solar and storage to replace fossil fuels that are considered harmful to the earth.

Altus Power is certainly not the only company, but it is the latest one to demonstrate that renewable developers are playing an increasingly important role in transforming the power systems and overall energy objectives of different regions. In the US, the government has shown a desire to support corporations that meticulously come up with strategies to develop renewable energy efficiently, which provides an idea of where the energy landscape is heading in the future.
