Apex 339 MW clean-energy portfolio

The energy industry is not short of investors at the moment, with entities fully aware of the amount of money that is to be made during the clean energy transition. If projects continue to progress and developers are executing them at the rate that they are currently, then investors are expected to generate a tremendous amount of revenue in the near future. The United States has done a good job of ensuring that there is a balance in the energy projects that are pursued instead of solely focusing on advancing a single energy source. The overall objective is to ensure that there is a reliable and consistent supply of clean energy in the country. On that note, Apex is bringing new investors into a 339 MW clean-energy portfolio spanning North Carolina wind and Michigan solar while keeping control of the assets.

An assessment of Apex Clean Energy and North Carolina’s energy sector

Apex Clean Energy is a company that was founded with the aim of accelerating the shift to clean energy, and it has continued to play an integral role in that regard. Through the origination, development, construction, and operation of utility-scale wind, solar, and storage facilities and distributed energy resources, the entity is committed to expanding the renewable frontier across the United States.

Apex displays its forward-thinking nature by using a data-focused approach and an unrivaled portfolio of projects to create solutions for the world’s most innovative and forward-thinking customers.

Apex is bringing new investors into clean-energy projects spanning North Carolina and Michigan

A recent press release from Apex Clean Energy announced the closing of a strategic portfolio selldown to Electricity Generating Public Company Limited (EGCO Group), a leading energy company with a substantial portfolio of investments across the United States. This is the second capital recycling transaction between the two companies after a 252 MW wind and solar sell-down that closed in October 2025.

When companies establish strong relationships within the energy industry, they are able to collaboratively execute groundbreaking initiatives and improve the energy landscape. The portfolio in this instance consists of the 189 MW Timbermill Wind in North Carolina and Coldwater Solar in Michigan.

The solar and wind energy sectors have previously received criticism for being vulnerable to intermittency issues, but nowadays, they are seen as much safer investments because developers are combining them with energy storage facilities. According to the details about the completed selldown, Apex is set to retain a 51% ownership stake. It will proceed to manage operations of the facilities, with EGCO Group acquiring a 49% stake.

A general overview of Michigan’s solar energy industry and ongoing transformation

Michigan is among the states that are experiencing a rapid surge in solar energy development, ranking 7th nationally for solar panel installations in early 2026 as part of broader Midwest renewable growth. Solar power in the Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO) region covering Michigan is said to have jumped from barely 1% of system power in 2023 to 4.5%, supercharged by improvements in battery storage technology.

What does the latest sell-down mean for Apex and EGCO Group?

Industry experts are carefully examining what the latest agreement for the two entities means for the solar and wind energy landscape moving forward. Ken Young, CEO of Apex, stated the following:

“Our second portfolio with the EGCO Group builds on a partnership that has already proven itself. Timbermill and Coldwater are high-performing assets delivering for their host communities, and this transaction lets us put that value to work on what we’re building next, at a moment when the country needs new generation faster than it’s being built.”

North Carolina possesses the largest offshore wind resource potential on the U.S. East Coast, supported by a growing commercial pipeline and resilient supply chain network. Among the state’s notable land-based wind farms is the Amazon wind farm, which generates 208 MW through 104 turbines, and the Timbermill wind farm, which generates 189 MW across 45 turbines spanning 6,000 acres.
