ExxonMobil, along with its employees, contributed over $2.4 million to higher education institutions across Louisiana through the ExxonMobil Foundation’s 2015 Educational Matching Gift Program.
Throughout 2015, employees, retirees, top management, and surviving spouses were solely responsible for the contribution of over $600,000 to 19 colleges and universities in Louisiana. This amount was then met with a $1.8 million match in unrestricted grants from the ExxonMobil Foundation.
While the recipient institutions of these grants can allocate the money as they see fit, they are encouraged to set aside a portion to science and math programs that will support student engagement.
The Educational Matching Gift Program matches donor pledges 3:1 up to $7,500 to any qualified university in the U.S. Over $600 million has been donated to U.S. institutions of higher learning. Through the Educational Matching Gift Program, more than 850 institutions nationwide have received over $45 million.
Along with this program, ExxonMobil and the ExxonMobil Foundation support and work to develop programs that focus on the encouragement of women and minorities to consider pursuing careers in science, technology, engineering and math.
The ExxonMobil Foundation acts as the philanthropic branch of the ExxonMobil Corporation within the U.S. The foundation and corporation are involved in a wide spectrum of philanthropic activities that aim to advance education. In 2015, as a whole, the ExxonMobil Foundation was responsible for $268 million in contributions worldwide.
