Letter from the Publisher
In researching this issue it was amazing to see how the oil and gas industry has naturally progressed its safety processes and continues to implement new technologies to protect everyone and everything involved. Hint: that’s you, me, our families, neighbors, and pretty much anyone living within a hundred miles of a McDonald’s. Most people are sensible enough to realize safety has always been priority #1 in our industry. Protecting your investment, workforce, and community equals higher profits, job growth, and the ability to fill up our cars with gasoline – it makes sense. Then there are people like the person who recently trolled (I mean posted) on our Facebook page “Why would anyone be proud of the oil industry, you’re destroying our coast.” It’s this kind of uninformed, divisive statement that I think we should fight back against. Without even getting into all we have to be proud of, our industry is completely dedicated to a culture of safety and protecting our environment and we should be recognized for our record of success and progress. Why do we never see this headline? “Millions of barrels of oil safely produced today in America without incident.” That’s basically a miracle happening every day and I think we should start taking credit for it. Only acknowledging the rare accident is like someone starving to death on a mountain only to complain that the hamburger you brought them wasn’t vegan. Well, I for one love hamburgers, and they’re always delicious. So I thank you – keep up the extraordinary work.
