ASEAN Energy Business Forum 2024 Spotlights Energy Innovations through the ASEAN Energy Awards

The ASEAN Energy Business Forum 2024 (AEBF-24) hosted an Awarding Night to announce the winners of the ASEAN Energy Awards of 2024 on Friday, 27 September 2024, in Vientiane, Lao PDR. The event is organized by the ASEAN Centre for Energy and hosted by the Ministry of Energy and Mines (MEM) of Lao PDR.

The ASEAN Energy Awards (AEA) stands as an esteemed honor, highlighting and celebrating excellent contributions to the energy sector across the ASEAN region. The award serves as Southeast Asia’s reputable recognition to encourage greater private sector participation and interest in ASEAN energy development. Celebrated and held in conjunction with AEBF-24, AEA 2024 showcases two diverse awards that underlines the commitment of organizations in implementing sustainable energy practices and innovation, which are Energy Efficiency & Conservation, and Renewable Energy.

The Energy Efficiency and Conservation Awards consist of three awards which highlight advancements of energy efficiency measures in following areas:

  • Green Building Award: Celebrating buildings and residential that showcase exceptional energy-efficient designs and technologies. The categories under this award namely: (i) Large Green Building, (ii) Small and Medium Green Building, and (iii) Green Residential.
  • Energy Efficient Building Award: Recognising structures that prioritize energy efficiency, demonstrating reduced energy The categories under this award namely: (i) New and Existing Building, (ii) Retrofitted Building, (iii) Tropical Building, and (iv) Special Submissions.
  • Energy Management in Buildings and Industries Award: Commending effective energy management strategies within buildings and industrial sectors.

Lastly, the Renewable Energy Award underscores innovation in sustainable energy sources. The categories under this award are:

  • Off Grid: Recognising achievements in establishing and operating off-grid renewable energy systems.
  • On Grid: Celebrating the successful integration of renewable energy sources into the grid.
  • Combined Heat and Power Generation: Acknowledging organisations that effectively implement cogeneration systems to maximise energy use.
  • Biofuel: Commending advancements of bioenergy/biofuel utilisation

Special Submission: Recognising innovative RE projects

A distinguished panel of judges carefully selected the award winners from the pool of participants. This year, a total of 52 participants were selected as winners. These winners were awarded with trophies, plaques, and high-profile recognition in an award presentation ceremony that was held in conjunction with the ASEAN Ministers on Energy Meeting (AMEM).

The Excellence Individuals Award: In addition to the above esteemed winners from the aforementioned categories, the AEA also honors individuals who have shown remarkable dedication to regional energy collaboration. The Excellence Individuals Awards recognizes those who have contributed to promoting sustainable energy solutions, driving innovation, and cultivating an eco-friendlier energy future. The Excellence Individuals Awards were given to 18 winners.

About ASEAN Centre for Energy (ACE) 

Established on 1 January 1999, the ASEAN Centre for Energy (ACE) is an intergovernmental organization within the Association of Southeast Asian Nations’ (ASEAN) structure that represents the 10 ASEAN Member States’ (AMS) interests in the energy sector. ACE supports the implementation of the ASEAN Plan of Action for Energy Cooperation (APAEC), a blueprint for ASEAN energy sector. The Centre is guided by a Governing Council composed of Senior Officials on Energy from each AMS and a representative from the ASEAN Secretariat as an ex-officio member.
