EnerMech Completes Pre-Commissioning Phase of GOM Deepwater Project

A Critical Mineral at a Critical Moment: The Importance of Restoring Domestic Tungsten Production in the U.S.

Big news circulated in the offshore sector with advancements made in the Gulf of Mexico (GOM). EnerMech completed the pre-commissioning project for a major domestic energy infrastructure company in the GOM. Utilizing coil tubing technology, this was the organization’s largest membrane spread to be deployed in the region.

EnerMech’s agreement stipulated that the company provides a turn-key service that provides for the delivery of highly specialized services for oil and gas pipelines owned by the customer, a midstream operator. Awarded in August of last year, EnerMech completed the project in an 11-month timeframe and witnessed the customer’s first 10,000 SCFM nitrogen spread in up to 8,800 feet of seawater.

To successfully complete the project, EnerMech chartered three light construction vessels (LCVs), coil tubing, and managed the design and fabrication of pig launchers and receivers. This direct approach exhibited by EnerMech allowed its client to capitalize on gains made in project efficiencies by eliminating the need to communicate and collaborate with third-party providers.

The pre-commissioning project included several services pointed to the customer’s oil and gas pipelines, which included flooding, cleaning, gauging, hydrotesting, and dewatering activities. EnerMech utilized its Remote Flooding Console (RFC), and Subsea Test Pump (STP) technology manage the free flooding and hydrotesting activities conducted by using multiple high-flow triplex pumps.

EnerMech used a single vessel outfitted with 18 compressors, five nitrogen membranes, seven nitrogen boosters, and 2 7/8” coiled tubing units to deploy the nitrogen membrane spread. The company gained success through a specialized staff of 30 individuals which included field supervisors, engineers, and technicians.

“We are extremely proud to have completed this project, with a number of significant achievements accomplished along the way,” said Charles ‘Chuck’ Davison Jr., EnerMech CEO. The quick and efficient undertaking of these services to the highest standard is testament to the ability and dedication of both our team in Houston and the strong relationship built with this U.S. midstream operator.”

He added, “I’d like to thank Brennon Fitzgerald (general Manager-Process and Pipeline) and the team for their immense efforts over the course of the last year and also to our customer for trusting us to get the job done in a timely manner.”

EnerMech’s Vice President-Operations (Americas), Frazer Thomson, offered comments on the project’s success. He drew on the company’s deepwater experience and the ability to devise solutions as needed as primary outlets in successful completion of the project.

“This success not only highlights our deepwater expertise but also our commitment to delivering turn-key solutions for clients to overcome complex challenges,” said Thomson. “We have a strong track record in the Gulf of Mexico and a deep understanding of the region which enabled us to identify and deploy the most suitable solution for our customer.”
