Reports have emerged out of Kazakhstan stating that Envision Energy has entered into a landmark collaboration in Kazakhstan’s 1 GW Mirny wind farm. The Central Asian region is jumping on board the global trend of diversifying its energy sector and developing huge renewable energy projects in a region that has been lacking in implementing measures to bring the renewable energy sector on par with conventional energy generation methods. Envision Energy is a massive global company that has been selected by the Kazakh government for its exceedingly impressive capabilities.

Envision Energy has signed a letter of award (LOA) with the Kazakh government

That letter of award states that Envision Energy will supply 124 of its advanced 6.5 MW wind turbines to the 1 GW Mirny wind farm. The deal was signed during the recent Kazakhstan Energy Week in Astana in the presence of the project’s major stakeholders.

The Mirny project exemplifies how a small nation like Kazakhstan can transform its energy landscape by fostering international cooperation through strategic investments and technological innovations. The project will power over 1 million households through its estimated annual output of 4 billion kWh. Additionally, it will also prevent 3.5 million tpy of carbon dioxide emissions, which aligns perfectly with the international standards of decarbonization.

In a statement, the leadership of Envision Energy underscored the importance of the deal in the global energy ambitions of the sector.

“Kazakhstan is not only a vital partner of Envision Energy in the global energy transition, but also a nation with extraordinary potential to lead Central Asia towards a net-zero future. The Mirny wind project stands as a landmark example of how innovation and cross-border collaboration can come together to deliver clean, reliable, and affordable energy at scale. With our advanced 6.5 MW turbines, localised capabilities, and renewable-powered global supply chain, we are proud to support Kazakhstan’s ambition to achieve 15% renewable energy by 2030 and carbon neutrality by 2060. Together with our partners, we are turning this vision into reality- bringing lasting benefits to Kazakhstan, the region, and the world.” – John Lee, General Manager of Asia & Africa Markets at Envision Energy

Kazakhstan’s 1 GW Mirny wind farm is a prime example of cooperative projects in the energy sector

The world is fast approaching a future where singular nations are not able to develop their energy sectors efficiently without the assistance of outside investors. The Mirny wind farm exemplifies that cooperative nature of the energy sector. The project developer, Aktas Energy, is made up of several large energy companies, including:

  • TotalEnergies
  • Samruk-Energo JSC
  • KazMunayGas

Several European nations have been bolstering the wind power sector recently with auctions of huge wind farms, which points to the fact that the wind sector will continue to grow and develop its dominance in the renewable energy sector.

“No nation or company can tackle climate change alone; it requires cross-border collaboration, technological excellence, and a shared vision. With the advanced turbine technology, global expertise, and strong commitment to local content development, Envision Energy is the partner of choice for Kazakhstan’s landmark wind energy project. Together with Envision, we are confident that the Mirny project will play a pivotal role in helping Kazakhstan achieve 15% renewable energy in its national energy mix by 2030, delivering reliable, efficient, and sustainable clean energy while creating lasting economic and social benefits for local communities.” – Thierry Plaisant, Managing Director for TotalEnergies Renewables Kazakhstan

The project is due to receive its first wind turbines from Envision Energy by late 2026

The companies that form the Atkas Energy alliance are universally renowned for their expertise in the renewable energy sector. Envision Energy has stated that construction on site is due to commence in 2026, once the wind turbines arrive. While the United Kingdom wind sector faces a review by a regulatory body, Kazakhstan is moving forward with its plans to develop its renewable energy sector, with a focus on the 1 GW Mirny wind farm. Wind power is set to become the most dominant source of renewable energy generation.
