Amid the calls to diversify the global energy market to include new and pioneering renewable energy projects, a new development has been making the rounds in Europe. Everfuel has brought its 20 MW HySynergy green hydrogen facility online in Denmark, marking a new era of hydrogen production and exporting to the international market. Denmark has been working hard to accelerate the adoption and production of hydrogen in their national energy portfolio. Now the country has commissioned a new project that will reshape the region’s clean energy ambitions.
Everfuel and Crossbridge Energy Fredericia have inaugurated the HySynergy plant
The astonishing HySnergy plant will become the jewel of the Danish renewable energy sector, and Everfuel and Crossbridge recently inaugurated what will be one of Europe’s first large-scale electrolysis plants specifically designed to produce green hydrogen for the regional market. On November 2, Denmark reached a critical milestone in its hydrogen ambitions as it delivered its first trailer full of hydrogen to Germany, where the demand for hydrogen has been growing.
The inauguration was a celebration of Denmark’s success in the hydrogen sector, and saw the who’s who of the regional energy market in attendance, including:
- Denmark’s Finance Minister Nicolai Wammen
- Japanese Ambassador to Denmark Hideki Uyama
- Mayor Christian Bro from Fredericia Municipality
- CEO Finn Schousboe from Crossbridge Energy Fredericia
Green hydrogen will play a vital role in Europe’s energy transition in the future due to its clean energy potential, which is produced from renewable energy resources. This is the very first time that RFNBO-certified green hydrogen produced in Denmark has been shipped abroad, marking a new era of global trade of the renewable energy resource for the nation.
“HySynergy is a symbol of Denmark leading the way in Europe’s green transition. We have now shown that green hydrogen can be produced at industrial scale, delivered to industry – and exported. For years, Denmark has talked about the potential of green hydrogen. Now we are showing that it is possible in practice, paving the way for the establishment of a real value chain and, in the coming years, a multiplication of production capacities as the hydrogen pipeline to Germany becomes available,” – Jacob Krogsgaard, CEO and founder of Everfuel
Denmark’s hydrogen ambitions are being realized by the new project
Notably, the Danish government has expressed its ambition to establish over 2 GW of electrolysis capacity by 2035, and the HySynergy plant will play a vital role in the nation’s goals for green hydrogen production. In addition to the significant milestone achieved by the planned expansion of the HySynergy Plant, Denmark is also planning the development of Project Frigg.
Project Frigg, a large-scale plant in Revsing Energy Park near Vejen, will add to the already impressive hydrogen deliveries earmarked for the German energy market. The green hydrogen will be delivered via a new hydrogen pipeline that will serve Denmark’s German energy customers, paving the way for a continued long-term trade relationship. Germany’s proclivity for hydrogen has been on full display in recent months.
“For Crossbridge Energy, the collaboration with Everfuel is an important milestone. We already use 35 tonnes of hydrogen per day in our production.” – Finn Schousboe, CEO of Crossbridge Energy
Europe’s love affair with the hydrogen sector has reached a new high
Following the astonishing development in Denmark, other European nations are developing their own hydrogen projects that will reshape the region’s energy market for many years to come. Italy recently broke ground on its coastal hydrogen hub, which will feature a 5 MW electrolyzer. The European continent has become a global energy market leader in the adoption and implementation of new hydrogen projects that will serve the international market for an exceedingly long time, hopefully.
