Google and Constellation lock in a 20-year nuclear deal designed to bring 890 MW of additional reactor capacity onto the PJM grid
The nuclear energy sector continues to elevate mainly because of technology and scientific expertise influencing the decisions that developers make and the manner in which they decide to pursue projects. There is a variety of companies that are attempting to finish off the year on a high note, considering that they have targets that they set for themselves at the beginning of 2026. Such companies will be hoping to carry on that momentum into the new year and be at the forefront of the clean energy sector’s transformation. Recently, Google and Constellation locked in a 20-year nuclear deal designed to bring 890 MW of additional reactor capacity onto the PJM grid.
Google and Constellation’s partnership expected to bring positive outcomes
Google has been in the headlines for captivating energy projects in 2026 despite the company not being recognized as an energy producer itself. Google’s mission is to organize the world’s information and make it universally accessible and useful. Through products and platforms like Search, Maps, Gmail, Android, and Google Play, among others, the company plays a significant role in the daily lives of billions of people.
Constellation Energy Corporation is a Fortune 200 company that is headquartered in Baltimore and is the largest private-sector power producer in the world and the nation’s largest producer of clean and reliable energy.
With 55 gigawatts of capacity from nuclear, natural gas, oil, geothermal, hydro, wind and solar facilities, the company’s fleet had the generating capacity to power the equivalent of 27 million homes, providing about 10% of the nation’s clean energy and delivering the around-the-clock reliability that is required to power America’s growing economy.

According to a press release from Constellation Energy, the company, along with Google, has reached a long-term strategic clean energy partnership that aims to bring 890 megawatts (MW) of new, reliable nuclear capacity onto the PJM Interconnection grid to meet growing demand and increase grid reliability.
The 20-year power purchase agreement reached will allow investments in new equipment and technology at 11 Constellation-owned nuclear units in Illinois, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey, increasing thermal and electrical efficiency to unlock extra reliable, firm power to serve the grid.
This project has the potential to assist the general population in a variety of ways. For instance, the entirely new capacity expands total electricity generation available across the PJM footprint. The agreement helps sustain an estimated 4,400 existing jobs, creating approximately 7,200 new construction jobs during the building period and reflecting more than $4.3 billion in new investment by Constellation.

Industry experts predict that the two companies will be able to achieve a tremendous amount of success and set new standards of what a successful collaboration must look like. On top of expanding nuclear generation, the companies entered into a 15-year energy supply agreement for an additional 2,700 MW in PJM’s fleet.
Constellation also selected Google Cloud and Gemini Enterprise under an expanded five-year technology alliance to establish an “AI for energy” blueprint that will accelerate capacity delivery, optimize asset dispatch, and protect critical infrastructure.

The companies’ commitment to the collaboration signals how much they trust each other and how much they believe in achieving extensive success. Joe Dominguez, chairman, president, and CEO of Constellation, stated the following after the announcement:
“Preserving and expanding the output of the existing nuclear fleet and developing new clean generation is critical to meeting our nation’s growing energy needs while keeping costs affordable for homes and businesses. This long-term clean energy collaboration with Google can serve as a model for how technology companies and the energy industry can work together.”
Collaborations have been the key to many successful projects in 2026, as companies have become aware that it is much easier to share the responsibilities involved in a project than attempting to complete it individually.
