As hydrogen is becoming more popular among countries’ clean energy initiatives, China is still the outright leader in terms of installed capacity. As such, the continent of Asia has a reputation for delivering hydrogen initiatives so much that it is viewed as a hydrogen hub globally. Despite the prestigious position that the region enjoys, it is not slowing down by any means when it comes to the hydrogen projects that it is investing in. There is a continuous emergence of companies that seek to capitalize on the growing demand. Among these is Hydrexia, which has entered into a supply deal to provide hydrogen technology solutions in Vietnam.

A general overview of Hydrexia’s hydrogen production ambitions

When a company is recognized as one of the leaders in the production of clean energy, they approach energy production with the intention of pushing boundaries and establishing captivating initiatives that have never been seen before. Hydrexia is a leading hydrogen technology solution provider that has an extensive history of delivering top-notch facilities.

The company emerged from the University of Queensland before it was merged with a Chinese-based Hyfun in 2021. While originating from Australia, the entity has a very strong operational base in China, which is helpful because it makes the company associated with the leading hydrogen-producing nation that has an abundance of resources.

In its latest endeavor, hydrogen technology firm Hydrexia took a major step into Southeast Asia’s clean energy market after signing a commercial agreement in Vietnam. The deal marks the company’s first-ever entry into the Vietnamese hydrogen sector, which is a market gaining momentum as governments push for low-carbon solutions.

Delving deeper into the features of the supply deal reached by Hydrexia in Vietnam

The partnership reached by the company means that Hydrexia will be tasked with supplying advanced hydrogen storage and refueling technologies to a local partner. The agreement demonstrates the growing significance of cross-border collaboration in accelerating green energy adoption.

In the energy industry, companies are less competitive and more collaborative because they understand the overall aim of reducing carbon emissions within their respective environments. Hydrexia’s commercial agreement is with Vietnam-based KPT Chemical Group to deploy hydrogen technologies across the country.

The terms of the agreement require Hydrexia to supply key systems, including its magnesium-based solid-state hydrogen storage containers (MHX) and mobile hydrogen refueling stations (MHRS). The partnership allows KPT to incorporate these intricate technologies into Vietnam’s ever-growing hydrogen ecosystem.

Hydrexia will have the opportunity to use the agreement to expand its international footprint, especially in Southeast Asia, where demand for clean energy solutions continues to surge.

Understanding the potential impacts of the supply deal on the Asian hydrogen landscape

For Hydrexia, the supply deal is a representation of the importance of local partnerships. The company’s collaboration with regional players like KPT is integral for Hydrexia’s ability to enter new markets and scale hydrogen adoption.

At the core of the agreement is Hydrexia’s modular hydrogen technology, specifically built to support storage, transportation, and end-use applications. The MHX system enables hydrogen to be stored in a solid form, enhancing safety and efficiency compared to traditional methods.

The hydrogen supplied under the contract will be obtained from the Darul Hana H2 Plant in Kuching, Malaysia, developed in partnership with SEDC Energy. At the moment, the facility has a production capacity of about 150 kilograms per day.

Hydrexia strengthens Southeast Asia’s green hydrogen transition

The agreement continues the momentum of the multiple hydrogen initiatives established in Southeast Asia, where countries are quickly seeking replacements for fossil fuels. Vietnam has chosen hydrogen as an integral part of its long-term energy transition strategy.

A combination of Hydrexia’s technology with KPT’s market access will effectively support the creation of a full hydrogen value chain in Vietnam.

Ultimately, the deal emphasizes Hydrexia’s wider strategy of reaching regional partnerships to hasten the adoption of green hydrogen technologies. The Asian continent deserves credit for its commitment.
