A decade ago, India was universally regarded as one of the highest polluters on the planet and had close to no renewable energy systems or procedures in place to develop a future of green energy. Oh, how the times have changed. India has become a global leader in renewable energy production, and the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, has become an icon for spearheading the country’s foray into renewable energy.

India has been reborn thanks to some smart investments from the government

One understands the need for a country that has India’s population figures to comprehend the fact that its citizens can not continue with the status quo, and something needs to be done to ensure their children’s future. Love him or hate him, Narendra Modi has done something that nearly all other politicians failed at: making a difference.

The entire world has seen the images coming out of India; some areas in the country are known for their poverty and the inevitable polluted living conditions that are a direct result of the economy and the sheer amount of people in India. Now we are certainly not suggesting that poverty and pollution are limited to the nation of India; in any country in the world, one can find abject living conditions with little to no solutions in sight.

What separates India from the rest of the world is that the government is acutely aware of the scale of the problem and has made significant investments into finding a solution. When Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that he would be making a trip to a region of India known as Kutch, the world’s media began to envision the plans he had in store for the region, which already has a troubled history thanks to disastrous climate events.

The region of Kutch has seen a complete turnaround since the earthquake in 2001

The PM made a trip down to the region to show off several ship manufacturing sectors, a market that India is focusing heavily on. To add to that, the PM also announced several new projects in the region. The Kandla Port is an important region for the Indian government, and the government announced several new roads, water, and solar projects that it is funding.

The region was hit by a devastating earthquake in 2001, and many thought it would become a dead zone after such a tragedy. However, as part of Modi’s tour of the region, he announced a new solar park in the Khavda Renewable Energy Park, and it is going to be huge. The park will consist of, among other things, 60,000,000 panels with 770 turbines to produce 30 GW.

That’s enough energy to power 18 million households, not a bad return on a $2.26 billion investment. He also inaugurated the country’s first 9,000-horsepower locomotive engine. The region in question is exceedingly important, as it handles approximately a third of India’s coastal trade, and now has one of the largest solar farms in the world. Modi was full of praise for all involved and pointed out India’s commitment to becoming a global leader in the renewable energy sector.

Modi has transformed India into a global leader in the sector

Narendra Modi has had an interesting tenure as India’s Prime Minister. He has been embroiled in several political scandals, but at this point, we challenge you to find a single politician who hasn’t. What he has done is transform India from one of the world’s worst polluters into a global leader investing heavily in several projects that aim to reduce carbon emissions and steer the country towards a more environmentally friendly energy consumption standard. With more projects on the horizon, including hydrogen and other renewable energy projects, India has completed its transformation. Just in time.
