BATON ROUGE, LA – The Louisiana Mid-Continent Oil and Gas Association (LMOGA) President Tommy Faucheux released the following statement on the Biden administration’s announcement to pause approvals of new LNG export facilities, unnecessarily increasing project wait times at a time of geopolitical turmoil.

“Louisiana is proudly home to three of the top eight domestic LNG export terminals. Louisiana LNG exports ensure the energy needs of our international allies are met without a threat to their national security and in a manner that supports our nation’s climate goals. The Administration’s actions today will have signification impacts on energy security and could slow global climate progress.”

“There is no review needed to understand the clear benefits of U.S. LNG for stabilizing energy markets, supporting thousands of American jobs and reducing emissions around the world by supporting the energy transition. Our industry is proud to support our international allies and global emissions goals, but the geopolitical and climate benefits of American energy exports cannot be maintained with policy decisions that create unnecessary hurdles and hinders the export approval process.”

In a letter sent this week to DOE Secretary Granholm, LMOGA emphasized the critical role that continued U.S. LNG exports play in safeguarding national security, creating U.S. jobs, supporting our European allies and contributing to global climate goals. Click here to view the full letter.

LMOGA also joined the American Petroleum Institute (API), the American Exploration and Production Council (AXPC), Center for LNG (CLNG), Independent Petroleum Association of America (IPAA), LNG Allies, and dozens of other industry groups from across the LNG value chain this week in a letter to Secretary Granholm and senior administration officials urging the Biden administration to reject calls to halt permits for U.S. LNG export facilities. The Louisiana Mid-Continent Oil & Gas Association (LMOGA), founded in 1923, is a trade association exclusively representing all sectors of the oil and gas industry operating in Louisiana and the Gulf of Mexico. LMOGA serves exploration and production, refining, transportation, marketing, and mid-stream companies as well as other firms in the fields of law, engineering, environment, financing, and government relations.
