The Oil & Gas Technology Centre (OGTC) has today {1 June, 2020} announced the appointment of Martin Gilbert as Chair of the Aberdeen-based research and technology organization. He will succeed Archie Kennedy who has been Vice Chair and Chair of the OGTC since it was established in February 2017.
Established with £180 million funding from the Aberdeen City Region Deal, the OGTC has become the go-to technology center for the oil and gas industry. In partnership with industry, it has invested in nearly 250 innovative projects that could generate up to £15 billion in value to the UK economy.
More recently, with strong support from industry, academia and the UK and Scottish Governments, it has created a Net Zero Solution Centre, to accelerate technology to support the UK’s transition to a net zero economy and meet the growing demand for low carbon energy technologies.

The OGTC was established in 2016 with £180 million of funding as part of the Aberdeen City Region Deal. It supports a host of companies focused on reducing carbon emissions, changing how they generate energy, preparing facilities to operate remotely and driving down the cost of hydrogen generation.
Martin was a founding director of Aberdeen Asset Management in 1983 and was instrumental in its £11bn merger with Standard Life in 2017, when he became co-chief executive of Standard Life Aberdeen.
