Dalton, GA – MFG Chemical, a global leader in specialty and custom chemical manufacturing, and recent winner of several awards for plant safety, is implementing the practice of  ‘reverse parking’ at all four of its manufacturing, R & D and headquarters facilities.

According to MFG Chemical President & CEO Keith Arnold, “At MFG Chemical we are always interested in new ways of reducing risk and enhancing our safety culture.  Parking in reverse is a simple way to reduce the risk of accidents; by reverse parking you avoid backing out blindly into oncoming traffic or into the path of pedestrians. Also, when employees reverse park as they  arrive at work, it is a good start to their safety behavior throughout the workday.”

Joe Welch, MFG Chemical Director of EHS&S further explained, “The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) shows that 20% of all vehicle accidents happen in parking lots. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) estimates that 267 people are killed and 15,000 injured each year in the US by drivers who back into them, usually in a driveway or parking lot. Reverse parking will lower the risk of these kinds of accidents.”

Barry Lassiter, MFG Chemical VP Operations and former Safety Director at both MFG and DuPont added, “Reverse parking is recommended by the American Automobile Association and is practiced by many of our customers, especially in the oil & gas industry. Reverse parking is now part of the safety culture here at MFG Chemical”
