With the numerous energy projects that are pushing the boundaries in 2026, no country wants to be left behind. There are many examples of nations collaborating with foreign companies achieve specific objectives that would have otherwise been difficult to manage. In the recent development, it is Nextpower Arabia that has been selected to deliver 2.25 GW of innovative solar tracking systems for Saudi Arabia’s Bisha solar complex.

Saudi Arabia is quickly taking over the solar production industry

It is not a secret that Saudi Arabia is one of the wealthiest nations in the contemporary world, as it actively and openly invests in projects for the whole world to see. Slowly but surely, Saudi Arabia is becoming a force not to be reckoned with.

The solar energy landscape is fascinating in Saudi Arabia because the whole world is witnessing the nation as it grows rapidly. According to reports, the Middle Eastern country is targeting 50% of its electricity from renewable energy sources by 2030, with 40 GW emerging solely from solar PV. The Bisha solar complex will undoubtedly play a part in assisting the Kingdom in achieving its objectives.

The Saudi Green Initiative is one that has seen the Kingdom develop groundbreaking projects such as the 2.6 GW Al Shuaibah 2 plant, the 1.5 GW Sudair plant, and now the 2.25 GW Bisha complex. All in all, Saudi Arabia is aiming to install 15,000 MW of new solar energy capacity through projects that are predicted to cost US$8.3 billion, which conveys the limitless ambition of the Kingdom.

Saudi Arabia’s Bisha solar complex: An overview of the landmark energy development

Nextpower Arabia is the corporation that has received the privilege of developing Saudi Arabia’s next monumental complex, which is a huge responsibility. This order was secured by Larsen & Toubro on behalf of an ACW consortium. Interestingly, other nations usually do not rely on local companies to work on projects of such a massive scale, especially if they do not have the resources. However, Saudi Arabia is so economically advanced that it does not necessarily require foreign nations to spearhead its development.

The Bisha plant is located in the Asir Province. It is the largest solar establishment under Wave 6 of Saudi Arabia’s National Renewable Energy Program (NREP), which is under the supervision of the Ministry of Energy.

How has the Bisha solar complex elevated Saudi Arabia to the forefront of renewable energy production?

A lot has been made about the strategic importance of the complex not only to Saudi Arabia but to the entire Middle East region. The development is part of the government’s NREP Wave 6 procurement that intends to accelerate the establishment of renewable power capacity. The plant, which the Saudi Power Procurement Company acquired, is widely regarded as one of the most unique projects in the world.

NextPower has high expectations about the Bisha Solar complex

The people involved with the complex have shown great confidence and assured the people of the inevitable success of the development. For instance, Turki Al-Amri, who is Nextpower Arabia’s Chairman and CEO, stated:

“The Bisha project will significantly contribute to national and regional renewable energy transformation objectives. By manufacturing and producing Nextpower Arabia systems in the Kingdom, we can deliver a wide range of benefits from our newly localized solar supply chain for our development partners while advancing Saudi’s national industrialization strategy.”

The capacity of the development is 2.2 GW, meaning it will supply a massive amount of the Saudi Arabian population. The innovative solar tracking systems will assist the Kingdom to improve its electricity generation as well as efficiency by repositioning solar panels as the sun moves to effectively capture more sunlight. Everything about the complex reeks of class and glamour, which is something that energy projects are not usually associated with. The Bisha solar complex is undoubtedly one of the many to watch in 2026.
