Spain opens €350 million funding round for wind repowering and energy-storage upgrades

As the world has been ensnared by the overwhelming reality that the conventional energy-generating processes that have dominated the global market for generations are coming to a swift end, the renewable energy sector has seen the vast majority of nations turning to it to develop new and exciting projects that not only provide energy but also help avoid massive amounts of emissions. Spain is one such nation, and has recently revealed that the Nordex Group, alongside SSE, will develop a 42 MW wind capacity project in the Aragón region.

Nordex secures new wind turbine order from its long-standing customer SSE

The Nordex Group has installed around 57 GW of wind power capacity in over 40 unique markets in its corporate history, placing the group at the forefront of the renewable energy sector for many years. The company has vast experience and expertise in developing, constructing, and maintaining renewable energy projects around the world.

Now, the company has secured a new order from its long-time customer, SSE, for the supply and installation of seven N163 wind turbines for the Spanish wind power market. The new turbines are for the 19 MW Minguez wind farm and the 23 MW Portalrubio wind farm in the Aragón region of Spain.

Nordex has also stated that the new order comes with a 20-year Premium Service contract, which will ensure long-term operational reliability, as well as provide SSE with a maximum return of energy yields from the two wind farms.

The long-standing relationship between Nordex and SSE Renewables has been extended even further

The new order builds on an already profitable relationship between the two companies, with the completion of the 64 MW Jubera wind farm nearing completion. Nordex’s commitment to building the European energy supply chain is on full display as the company has noted that the towers, blades, and nacelles for the wind farms will be manufactured in Spain.

Nordex’s Spanish projects have established the company as the go-to energy company in the region

The two new wind farms in Spain will be leaning on the fact that Nordex’s manufacturing facility is only a short three-hour drive from the planned wind farms, providing Spain with the possibility to boost its domestic production of essential wind components for the renewable energy sector.

The company’s presence in the region is strengthened by its service point in Zaragoza, providing locals with a direct energy connection to the company’s resources, which have become as vast as the region’s wind power potential.

“We are delighted to continue our successful collaboration with SSE and to contribute to Aragón’s leadership in renewable energy. Our advanced turbine technology position us as a key partner for the region’s ambitious wind energy targets.” – Francisco Cejudo, Director Sales Spain at Nordex Group

The renewable energy sector has been surging in popularity in recent years as several nations aim to decarbonize their energy markets in the near future to meet clean energy targets. RWE, for instance, has been awarded contracts for two French onshore wind farms, marking Europe’s dive into the pool of renewable energy production.

Wind power has become a force in the global energy market, with one exception

As the global energy market has finally realized the potential of the wind power sector, the vast majority of nations in the world are developing their wind sectors to reach new highs in the years to come. However, the United States has effectively killed the ambitions of wind power, as industry insiders and analysts have noted that the current administration has paralyzed the wind power sector in the United States due to permitting delays. Spain, however, is moving forward with its wind power dream and developing new projects to drive the sector towards a new standard of excellence.
