Ah yes, what could be better than expanding an already globally dominant energy industry? Well, for one, developing a regional energy production and transportation infrastructure that is not reliant on federal influence. In a move that could reshape North Dakota’s energy industry, Intensity Infrastructure Partners has teamed up with Rainbow Energy Center to advance the latest natural gas pipeline in the state, a necessity to meet the anticipated increases in energy resource production in 2026 and beyond.
Pipelines, pipelines, my kingdom for some more pipelines
The remarkable expansion of the US energy industry has resulted in a plethora of new and expanded pipelines across North America. Since taking office for his second term, Donald Trump has issued several executive orders aimed at removing any and all regulatory barriers to expand oil and gas production across the US energy industry.
For the smaller and less energy-rich regions of the United States, developing new or additional pipelines for the energy industry often requires companies teaming up to make significant progress. In that vein, Intensity Infrastucture Partners, a Oklhahoma-based midstream company with over 145 years of experience in the midstream sector, and Rainbow Energy Center, a privately held independent power producer headquartered in North Dakota, have announced a new strategic partnership to advance a proposed natural gas pipeline in North Dakota.
North Dakota is set to become the home of a new natural gas pipeline, linking the state to growth opportunities
The reality is that the US is expanding its energy output capacity, and more pipelines will be needed to facilitate the profound growth plans for the US energy market over the coming years. New data centers, increasing population growth, and the ever-present competition from the international energy market have resulted in the US expanding its output capacity of essential energy resources over the past couple of years.
Can the new partnership develop the latest natural gas pipeline in the US?
The partnership aims to construct a new natural gas pipeline, which will originate in the resource-rich Bakken and transport gas to eastern North Dakota. The proposed pipeline will provide expanded takeaway capacity for gas produced in the prolific Williston Basin.
By enabling a new era of in-state natural gas processing and transportation for North Dakota, the project will assist in reducing flaring, unlock new midstream oil and gas production, and generate vast tax revenues for the State.
“A pipeline of this size directly supports the state’s goals to grow all energy production responsibly while capturing greater economic value for our citizens.” – Stacy Tschider, CEO of Rainbow Energy Center
To increase energy resource production, certain US-based energy companies have opted to bring in new leadership to fill significant roles. Intensity and Rainbow are just two US-based energy companies that have expressed substantial growth plans for the coming years to benefit from the surge in energy production across the United States.
“We’re proud to be part of the solution to extend the longevity of the Bakken and create new opportunities for energy and agriculture across North Dakota.” – Joseph Griffin, CEO of Intensity Infrastructure Partners
Rainbow and Intensity have targeted an in-service date for the proposed ND pipeline
The project will be completed in two separate phases. Phase I will consist of the construction of 136 miles of 36-inch natural gas transmission pipeline, while Phase II will extend the pipeline 208 miles from Washburn to Casselton, ND. Expanding pipelines has become the latest trend across the US market, and Rainbow and Intensity are aiming for the pipeline to be completed and enter service by July 2029. Importantly, the pipeline will reserve capacity for any possible future projects along the identified route.
