NANO Nuclear Energy and Enveniam sign MOU to explore U.S. microreactor deployment, nuclear fuel cycle, and energy infrastructure collaboration

NANO Nuclear Energy (NASDAQ: NNE) and Enveniam signed a non-binding Memorandum of Understanding on September 4, 2026, pairing a microreactor and nuclear fuel developer with a project integration firm to explore cooperation across some of the most demanding segments of the U.S. nuclear value chain.

The agreement, announced jointly from New York and Oak Ridge, Tenn., sets out a framework for the two companies to evaluate potential work spanning nuclear fuel transportation, uranium conversion and deconversion, microreactor licensing and deployment, advanced manufacturing, and power solutions for data centers and remote communities.

Two companies formalize framework for nuclear cooperation

NANO Nuclear Energy is a NASDAQ-listed advanced nuclear micro modular reactor and technology company. It’s building what it calls a vertically integrated platform — microreactors, nuclear fuel fabrication, transportation, the whole stack. Enveniam, based in Oak Ridge, Tenn., is a project integrator with deep roots in nuclear engineering, safety analysis, licensing support, project controls, and complex energy infrastructure.

The second covers conversion and deconversion: engineering design, criticality-safety analysis, and licensing-strategy support for potential uranium facilities.

The September 4 MOU gives both organizations a framework to figure out where their capabilities actually overlap. It doesn’t lock either party into specific projects, funding, or commercial transactions — anything concrete would need its own separate agreement covering scope, schedule, economics, and regulatory requirements.

Jay Yu, Founder and Chairman of NANO Nuclear Energy, described the pairing as bringing together “complementary capabilities across the advanced nuclear value chain.” Doug Freund, Executive Officer of Enveniam, said the framework gives both teams a chance to assess where Enveniam’s engineering and delivery expertise can help turn promising nuclear concepts into executable projects.

Six workstreams identified for potential collaboration

The MOU lays out six principal areas where the companies plan to explore joint work, each targeting a distinct segment of the nuclear value chain.

The first is nuclear fuel transportation — engineering, safety, and regulatory support for NANO Nuclear’s High-Assay Low-Enriched Uranium (HALEU) transportation systems, including transport-basket optimization, regulatory filings, and security protocols. The second covers conversion and deconversion: engineering design, criticality-safety analysis, and licensing-strategy support for potential uranium facilities.

Third is microreactor commercialization, which includes technical and licensing support for NANO Nuclear’s proprietary ‘ZEUS’ and ‘ODIN’ microreactor designs. The remaining three workstreams address advanced manufacturing support for a potential U.S.-based production facility; domestic fuel supply chain coordination spanning sourcing, fabrication, qualification, and delivery; and commercial energy markets targeting electricity and process-heat solutions for specific end-user groups.

Data centers and remote communities identified as target end-users

Two end-user categories stand out as near-term focus areas. The first is data centers and other energy-intensive commercial customers. Rapid expansion of AI, cloud computing, and electrification is pushing demand for dependable, around-the-clock power — exactly the kind of baseload generation that advanced nuclear is designed to deliver.

Remote and off-grid communities are the second focus. Think Alaska Native organizations and island jurisdictions that currently depend heavily on imported fossil fuels. For those communities, the potential goes well beyond basic electricity. The companies say they intend to evaluate resilient power, district heat, desalination, and hybrid systems pairing microreactors with renewable generation.

Neither category is a firm commitment. Any deployment still needs to clear technical feasibility reviews, secure financing, obtain the necessary licenses, and get formalized through separate project documentation. The MOU is a starting point, not a deployment plan.

MOU supports NANO Nuclear’s broader domestic fuel cycle strategy

The agreement fits into a larger strategy NANO Nuclear has been building through its subsidiaries. Advanced Fuel Transportation Inc. is pursuing HALEU transportation capabilities, while HALEU Energy Fuel Inc. is working on fuel-fabrication capabilities intended to support both NANO Nuclear’s own reactor programs and the broader advanced nuclear industry.

Enveniam’s background in project integration, nuclear operations, and supply-chain management is expected to complement those efforts. CEO James Walker noted that commercializing advanced nuclear technology requires more than a strong reactor design — it demands “disciplined licensing, safety analysis, project controls, supply-chain coordination, manufacturing planning and operational readiness.”

The MOU calls for a joint working group that will meet periodically to review potential opportunities, flag projects that may warrant a funded statement of work, and consider joint applications for federal or state funding. Each company retains full discretion over what information it shares and which opportunities it decides to pursue. Neither party is obligated to move forward on any specific project.

What the agreement means in practice

At its core, the NANO Nuclear–Enveniam MOU is a structured way for two organizations to determine whether they should work together — and on what. It doesn’t move any project forward on its own. What it creates is a formal process for evaluating opportunities across six demanding segments of the U.S. nuclear value chain.

NANO Nuclear gains access to a partner with deep project integration and nuclear safety credentials. Enveniam gets visibility into an advanced nuclear platform spanning fuel transportation, fabrication, microreactor development, and commercial deployment. A joint working group will drive periodic reviews. Any collaboration that actually moves forward will still need its own separate, binding agreement to define scope, funding, and responsibilities.
