Scout signs Oracle for most of the output from a 300 MW Texas wind farm, tying another large block of generation to data-center-era electricity demand
Wind energy developers have to be careful about the projects that they pursue and the manner in which they pursue them, considering that there are many elements involved in such facilities. For instance, it is important that a wind energy facility is established in an area that is well known for its good wind conditions throughout the year so that there can be consistent energy generation. However, if this is not achieved, then companies can combine solar energy generation with storage facilities to overcome the intermittency issues that have affected wind energy facilities. As of late, Scout signed Oracle for most of the output from a 300 MW Texas wind farm, tying another large block of generation to data-center-era electricity demand.
A general overview: Scout Clean Energy achieves a huge milestone in Texas
Scout Clean Energy is a leading renewable energy developer-owner-operator that is headquartered in Boulder, Colorado, and is responsible for the development of an estimated 2,000 MW of operating and under-construction renewable energy assets in the United States. The company is well respected for its dedication to advancing the renewable energy sector and discovering new, efficient ways of energy generation.
Under the leadership of renewable energy veterans, Scout is currently developing a pipeline of more than 22,000 MW of wind, solar, and storage projects across 23 states. Wind surpassed coal to become the state’s second-largest electricity source in 2020, which is a reflection of the United States’ commitment to reducing carbon emissions.
Scout signs Oracle for most of the output from a 300 MW Texas wind farm
A recent press release from Scout Clean Energy announced that the company has signed a Virtual Power Purchase Agreement (VPPA) with Oracle for a majority of the output of Scout’s operational 300-megawatt (MW) Ranchero Wind Farm in Crockett County, TX. The VPPA is part of Oracle’s recently announced investment in over 1.7 GW of renewable energy projects in Texas.
According to reports, Texas’ wind energy capacity is so massive that if the state were an independent country, it would comfortably be among the leading wind energy-producing countries in the world. Although the overall target for the U.S. is to diversify the energy portfolio of every state, it cannot be ignored that there are certain states that serve as the hub for the generation of a specific energy source.
Scout Clean Energy is aiming to continue its huge momentum into 2027
A company’s ability to capitalize on the moment and maintain that momentum for an extended period is what separates it from the rest of its competitors. It ensures that it is respected among the pioneers. Ranchero Wind Farm, which is located in Crockett County, Texas, reached commercial operation in 2019 and is Scout’s largest operating renewable energy project to date.
Ranchero produces enough electricity each year to cover 177,000 homes‘ annual electricity usage and will contribute over $57 million in property taxes to Crockett County over its lifetime. Wind power provides billions in annual societal and consumer benefits by reducing wholesale generation and fossil-fuel price volatility.
What does the Ranchero Wind Farm mean for Scout Energy moving forward?
The company will be looking to execute even more captivating projects and solidify itself as a leader. Julia Robin, Head of Infrastructure Planning for Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, stated the following:
“Oracle is committed to developing data centers responsibly, especially as AI demand grows. This includes investing in carbon-free electricity that supports the Texas grid. The Ranchero Wind Project supports our goal to match 100 percent of our custom AI data center electricity with carbon-free electricity by 2035, while enabling a more reliable, resilient, and affordable energy system for Texans.”
Texas is the leading state in the U.S. for wind energy production, boasting over 40,000 MW of installed capacity and almost 20,000 wind turbines. Wind supplied 22.4% of electricity on the ERCOT grid in 2025, and it hit a record output of 29 GW on June 29, 2026.
