New flagship battery storage system unveiled to support Europe’s solar-dominant power markets

As the global energy sector is embroiled in the inevitable transition away from fossil fuels towards the renewable energy sector, SolarPower Europe has urged the adoption of renewables to strengthen energy security across the world. For far too long, the world has relied on the conventional energy generation methods that fossil fuels promote. That reliance has resulted in a devastated climate that has ravaged parts of the world. SolarPower Europe submitted its position paper to the European Commission’s Call for Evidence on the ‘Revision of the EU Energy Security Framework’.

SolarPower Europe calls for a comprehensive strategy to strengthen Europe’s energy resilience

Europe has pioneered the adoption of the renewable energy sector. While some nations still rely on the traditional oil and gas sectors, like Australia, Europe is aiming to accelerate the transition to renewable energy, which has been on the cards for the past decade at least.

SolarPower Europe’s submission to the European Commission calls for the energy sector to move beyond fossil fuel supply and build energy security on solar, storage, flexibility, and electrification.

“Europe’s energy security strategy must evolve with its energy system. Energy security policies can no longer incentivise fossil fuel storage or imports. It must be built on renewables, flexibility, and electrification.” – Dries Acke, Deputy CEO of SolarPower Europe

Solar power and battery storage systems already play a vital role in Europe’s energy market, saving about $33 billion in fossil fuel imports in the summer of 2022 alone. By implementing measures that strengthen the renewable energy sector, Europe can potentially reduce its dependence on imported fossil fuels, which would protect consumers from price volatility in the energy market.

SolarPower Europe has suggested several measures to ensure energy security and stability

SolarPower Europe is a pioneering organization focused on the promotion of the renewable energy sector, with a particular importance placed on the solar power sector. The organization submitted a document to the European Commission outlining several measures that the EU could undertake to accelerate the transition to renewable energy sources. Among the suggestions are:

  1. Unlock the full potential of the renewable energy sector in Europe: SolarPower Europe suggests measures to ensure solar, batteries, and inverters are allowed to provide flexible power to the European energy sector, balancing and grid stability services.
  2. Establish a robust EU cybersecurity framework: Cybersecurity is not only important for protecting your emails and private information, but could also protect distributed energy systems and inverters in Europe through a variety of measures, including strict remote-control limitations and strong harmonized standards in the energy sector in Europe.
  3. Build resilience against economic and climate issues: The EU should develop a flexible, decarbonized, renewables-based system that shields citizens from fluctuating energy prices due to geopolitical and climate change problems.

SolarPower Europe’s position paper could become the standard for the global energy sector to address the issues that have stagnated the adoption of renewable energy across the world. As Europe sees record-breaking solar projects being commissioned, the need to accelerate the transition to the energy sector has become more pressing than ever.

The global energy sector is changing, and Europe will need to adapt in order not to be left behind

The inevitable transition towards the renewable energy sector has become as clear as day. The world’s energy sector is rapidly accelerating the adoption of renewable energy beyond the planning phase to an actual implementation that requires a pragmatic approach to the new and innovative projects being commissioned. The technical advancements in the renewable energy sector have added fuel to the fire, and Europe is aiming to become the pioneer of change in the energy sector and lead the global transition to renewable energy.
