In the modern energy industry, bridging prosperity with sustainability has become a necessity. The undeniable and widely accepted reality of the world at the moment is that energy developments need to diversify production, along with the ever-present need to increase output capacity to meet demand.
India: An exemplar of the need to balance prosperity with sustainability
Technip Energies, a major global energy technology company with over 17,000 employees across 34 countries, has been awarded two contracts to deliver additional processing units at BPCL’s Bina and Mumbai refineries.
India has one of the largest populations in the world, and the populace is growing every year. All those waves of people need energy, and India is nothing if not adaptable, meaning that the nation is no stranger to altering energy developments and diversifying output.
The Indian government has heeded the call by the local populace to increase energy production and has recently launched its largest-ever licensing round for new energy developments.
The Asian energy market overall has seen demand for energy increasing in recent years, and has been identified by a plethora of energy analysts and experts as one of the fastest-growing energy markets in the world.
As Gandhi said, be the change you want to see in the world
Much like the iconic Indian freedom hero Mahatma Gandhi, India is fostering a new era of change regarding its energy industry. Diversifying energy production has become a tried and tested method to increase energy output while keeping a close eye on the emission levels that have devastated the planet’s environment.
Evolution is a process that holds no favor or preference; as such, the energy industry is evolving from the fossil fuel-dominated energy production that has encompassed the world over the past century. How might nations such as India diversify energy production, you ask?
We have a few answers, thanks to a new deal between Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited and Technip Energies.
Can Technip Energies meet the lofty expectations of BPCL?
In a recent deal that saw Technip Energies awarded two contracts by Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited, Technip will now develop new processing units at BPCl’s refineries in Madhya Pradesh and Mumbai.
To accelerate investments in energy developments across the iconic nation, the Indian Petroleum Ministry recently convened senior industry leaders at a high-stakes meeting. At the meeting, the topic of discussion was how to effectively increase the nation’s energy output capacity over the coming years.
What is expected from Technip under the contracts awarded by BPCL?
The first contract covers the Engineering, Procurement, Construction, and Commissioning of new Butene-1 and polypropylene units at BPCL’s refinery in Madhya Pradesh. The units will produce the building blocks for widely used energy-derived products across the international market.
The second contract refers to Technip handling the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction management (EPSCm) services needed to develop a 3 MMTPA Petro Resid Fluidized Catalytic Cracker Unit (PRFCC) at BPCL’s refinery in Mumbai, which, once completed, will be India’s first-ever PRFCC unit, exemplifying the national importance of the project.
“We are honored to support BPCL on these important development plans for the Bina and Mumbai sites. These awards reflect our client’s confidence in our engineering capabilities and our ability to deliver complex projects.” – Davendra Kumar, Managing Director, Technip Energies India
India’s focus is not limited to conventional energy production
Apart from the contracts awarded to Technip Energies by BPCL, India has made some serious progress in advancing the renewable energy market as well. In a landmark achievement, India recently launched a new green hydrogen production facility specifically designed to produce hydrogen for India’s first-ever hydrogen-powered train. The overall consensus is that India will lead energy production in the Asian market in the years to come.
