The solar power sector has received a massive boost recently when renewable energy company Voltalia announced that it has commissioned a new 45 MW solar plant in England, and furthermore announced its plans to enter the solar sector in Poland. The world has been consumed by the need to transition away from fossil fuels towards the untapped potential of the renewable energy sector. At the commissioning of the 45 MW solar plant in Dorset, England, the company noted that it also plans to commission a similar site in Poland.
Voltalia announced its plans to expand into the Polish energy market at the commissioning of the 45MW Clifton solar project
Voltalia announced its plans to enter the Polish energy market recently when it inaugurated the 45MW Clifton solar project in Dorset, England. The company has been expanding its European portfolio in recent years and announced to the public at the opening of the Clifton site.
The company currently has 140 MW of operational capacity, which includes 100 MW in Greece and 40 MW in Albania. Additionally, Voltalia also noted that it is actively working on 19 solar plants in the region, which will add 1.2 GW of capacity to its portfolio. Speaking at the commissioning of the site in the UK, the CEO noted the planned expansion into Poland was a landmark achievement.
“We are very pleased to contribute to the growth of renewable energy in Poland by commissioning our first solar power plant in the country. This project is in line with our strategy to develop our activities in Central and Eastern Europe, a region with strong potential for renewable energy. We are proud to support Poland in its energy transition and to contribute to the country’s energy independence.” – Sébastien Clerc, CEO of Voltalia
Voltalia recently commissioned the solar project in the United Kingdom to a fanfare of support
While the Polish expansion is underway, Voltalia has strengthened its UK portfolio by commissioning the 45MW Clifton solar project. By completing the successful commissioning of the solar project, Voltalia’s UK portfolio has been brought up to 134MW of solar and storage capacity.
The company first received approval for the Clifton project in 2022, when it was awarded a Contract for Difference (CfD) as part of the fourth Allocation Round (AR4) completed by the government. As the United Kingdom is currently transitioning to the renewable energy sector, the CfD scheme has been a cornerstone of the UK energy sector by allowing companies to bid for fixed-term contracts for renewable energy projects.
The Cliftonm project exemplifies the company’s ability to commission huge renewable projects, which the Polish sector will appreciate as the next target in the global energy transition. Similar projects in the UK have further accelerated the nation’s energy ambitions.
“We are very proud to have commissioned the Clifton Solar power plant. This project reflects our commitment to the UK market and our contribution to the national Clean Power goal of generating 95% low-carbon electricity by 2030.” – Voltalia CEO Robert Klein
Taking into account both projects in the UK and Poland, Voltalia is aiming to become a leader in the renewable energy sector
As energy demand increases around the world, several nations have seen a significant increase in output from the coal sector. The agnostic nature of the modern-day energy sector has undermined the need to leave the old behind in favor of the new. The world has become acutely aware of the effect the energy sector has on the environment through the litany of climate disasters that have become all too common. Poland can take solace in the fact that it will reap the benefits of Voltalia entering the market soon.
