Submit Abstracts by 8 August, 2022 to set the Path to Net Zero

Calgary — The 24th World Petroleum Congress (24th WPC) Organising Committee for Canada (OCAN) announced today an extension for the Call for Papers. In response to high interest from submitting authors, the new deadline to submit abstracts is 8 August, 2022. The Congress will take place from 17-21 September, 2023 in Calgary, Alberta.

Authors are invited to submit abstracts for paper and poster presentations at www.24wpc.com to share their innovative solutions based on the theme: Energy Transition: The Path to Net Zero. The 17 technical topics include innovations in upstream, downstream, petrochemicals, natural gas, and the future of the energy landscape.

“The 24th Congress will be one of the year’s premier global energy conferences. Due to a strong response from authors worldwide, we are extending the deadline for those still working on submissions. This will ensure authors have adequate time to develop and share the highest quality abstracts for the Congress” said Denis Painchaud, President, and CEO of OCAN.

“The Congress is meant to share diverse perspectives, allowing for a global dialogue on energy transition solutions. Through our technical forums, we look forward to hosting thought leaders across the industry to contribute to the energy transition,” added Dean Tucker, COO of OCAN.

Held every three years in select international cities, the WPC is the world’s premier oil, gas and energy forum that attracts the attendance of heads of state, energy leaders and technical experts who discuss the challenges and opportunities of managing the world’s petroleum and energy resources for the benefit of all. Under the theme of “Energy Transition: The Path to Net Zero,” the 24th WPC in Calgary will feature a multistream conference, including strategic and technical sessions, programming for young professionals, and special entertainment events such as Canada Night, Women’s Networking Breakfast, Ministerial Reception, Excellence Awards and much more.

The Congress is expected to draw over 5,000 delegates from more than 100 countries, 50 ministerial delegations, 700 expert speakers, and 800 media. Over 15,000 unique visitors are expected to participate in the Congress, which will also feature the World Petroleum Exhibition comprising of over 200 international exhibitors.

About the 24th WPC Organising Committee

The World Petroleum Congress Organising Committee for Canada (OCAN) is responsible for producing the 24th World Petroleum Congress. Known as “the Olympics” of the energy sector, the triennial World Petroleum Congress is one of the most significant oil, gas, and energy forums in the world. The Congress covers all aspects of the industry from technological advances in upstream and downstream operations to the role of natural gas and renewables, management of the industry, and its social, economic, and environmental impact. The 24th edition of the World Petroleum Congress will prove to be an important bridge between the traditional energy sector and a more carbon-neutral industry. Many important conversations will happen in Calgary to help define realistic, workable paths to a net-zero future.

About the World Petroleum Council

The World Petroleum Council was established in 1933 and provides a neutral platform for discussion of the issues facing the oil and gas industry and its stakeholders around the globe. It is a non-advocacy, non-political organisation, dedicated to the application of scientific advances in the oil and gas industries, technology transfer, and the sustainable use of the world’s petroleum resources for the benefit of all. The World Petroleum Council is registered as a charity in the UK. Its 60 nearly member countries represent 96% of the world’s oil and gas production and consumption.
