The rapid energy transition in Europe has been boosted by the recent news that Exus Renewables, a major player in the global renewable energy market, has brought two new Polish wind power projects with a combined output of 53 MW online. Poland, along with the vast majority of nations in Europe, has been working diligently to advance the standing of wind energy generation in the nation to meet clean energy and emission reduction targets.

Decarbonizing the global energy market is a shared responsibility that requires cross-border cooperation

The world has become acutely aware of the need to decarbonize the international energy market, as it stands as the major contributor to the climate crisis. Decarbonizing the international energy sector will be a shared responsibility for the energy-rich nations of the world and will require substantial investments in renewable energy generation.

While Europe has become a welcoming destination for the wind power market, the United States has taken a much different approach to the wind energy sector. US President Donald Trump has, on many occasions, expressed his disdain for the wind power sector and has even canceled federal funding for two wind energy developments in Maryland and Massachusetts.

“I know windmills very much. If you love birds, you’d never want to walk under a windmill, because it’s a very sad, sad sight. It’s like a cemetery. We put a little statue for the poor birds. If you have a windmill anywhere near your house, congratulations: Your house just went down 75% in value. They say the noise causes cancer. I never understood wind.” – US President Donald Trump

Regardless of the President’s feelings towards wind power, Europe has taken a far different approach to renewable energy and has been developing the market to reach new heights this year.

Exus Renewables is advancing Poland’s latest wind energy generation projects

Exus has officially brought the Jastrowie (30MW) and Okonek (23MW) wind farms in Poland online, thanks to the support of a new Power Purchasing Agreement signed with tech giant Amazon. The US tech company is in desperate need of more energy to power its new data centers.

The two latest Polish wind farms will generate upwards of 116GWh of clean electricity annually, and have become profoundly important to Poland’s energy transition efforts as the nation aims to develop more clean energy across the market. This has become necessary to meet clean energy and emission reduction targets agreed to by the vast majority of nations.

Poland has been developing its National Energy and Climate Plan to reshape its energy market

Under Poland’s National Energy and Climate Plan (NECP), the nation is targeting 56% of its electricity needs to come from renewable energy resources by the end of the decade. Poland recently launched its first-ever Contract for Difference auction, which provided the necessary support to advance the Baltica 9 offshore wind farm.

“After months of hard work, we’re delighted that the Jastrowie and Okonek wind farms are now officially operational. Exus has a strong commitment to decarbonising Europe’s economy and advancing key renewable energy technologies. Through these PPAs, we will help fast-track Poland’s renewable energy transition, contribute to the government’s 2030 clean energy targets, and to Amazon’s decarbonisation efforts.” – Pawel Szawlowski, Country Manager for Poland at Exus Renewables

Europe has become the go-to destination for significant wind energy generation projects

With Poland leveraging the support of the profoundly important Power Purchasing Agreements with Amazon to advance the new wind farms, Europe has become a welcoming destination for the renewable energy market overall. Germany has noted that the Windanker offshore wind project has reached a key development milestone recently, adding to the already substantial status of the renewable energy sector on the continent.
