We live in a highly advanced technological era, where many people are driven from one accomplishment to the next in the pursuit of wealth and a high standard of modern living. Yet there is a growing trend among some to slow down, lead a simpler life, and seek self-sufficiency by going off-grid. Fortunately, an American prepper has shared his secret to free energy for those who pursue the lifestyle.

Discovering a free, off-grid energy source may appeal to many

Global energy prices are generally high, and some countries that rely on imports face even higher costs compared to those that are rich in resources. Nonetheless, these prices alone are enough to encourage some to become more resilient and live independently from the grid, a concept that has grow ln massively in popularity in recent years. Many people who previously hadn’t considered this lifestyle started doing do due to the worries that came with COVID-19.

There are several important reasons to pursue a lifestyle that’s not reliant on external services. One of the most important factors is cost. An independent energy source means not having to pay for power utilities. A second consideration is the obvious benefits of emissions-free power. A third factor is resilience: off-gridders are safe from the real and growing concerns about cyberattacks on power plants and blackouts.

No grid, no problem: Free energy with just water

“Doomsday preppers,” as they are known, are people who believe that a major catastrophe could happen and they aim to be prepared  with off-grid energy options and supplies.

This prepper is popular on social media for sharing innovative DIY survival projects. On his TikTok account, @creativesurvival, he shows anyone interested in remote life how to make small-scale power solutions. A recent TikTok video demonstrates how to create free energy with just water, a skill that could safe your life.

On TikTok, the prepper provides a how-to guide on “creating green energy for a house in the forest” by using water from a nearby stream and a hydrogenerator. This hydrogenerator is crafted from random objects, so do not expect anything on the scale of the gigantic Himalayan Dam, which even has the Three Gorges beaten.

It is also important to keep in mind that the purpose of this prepper’s TikTok post is to show how innovation can generate renewable energy.

A DIY hydrogenerator: An American prepper’s guide

The prepper created his own hydrogenerator by using the following:

  • Old bicycle wheel frame and chain
  • Small generator
  • Lead
  • Wooden planks (to create a support structure)
  • PVC pipe
  • Saw
  • Bolts and screws
  • Hammer (can probably use a rock)
  • Fire
  • Metal pen (with sharp end)

First, he sawed the PVC pipe into pieces. He heated the metal pen in the fire and used it to melt holes into the pipe. The pieces of PVC pipe were then attached to the old bicycle wheel with bolts and screws, all facing the same direction. He fixed the support structure over the nearby stream and added the DIY turbine onto it. Next, he attached the bicycle chain to a small generator, then the lead to the generator.

As the running water turned the DIY hydrogenerator, clean power was generated, allowing him to power a light and charge his smartphone.

Innovation can make your life easier and save you some money. While this DIY project may not be feasible all the time, it can be useful if you live off-grid and you require an emergency supplemental clean power solution, especially if your solar or wind power system is experiencing problems. Another innovative milestone worth noting is the “gravity-breaking” liquid for hydropower.
