The energy industry has evolved so much that there are multiple steps that need to be completed or surpassed before developers can officially begin to execute a project. Governments have a huge responsibility to approve appropriate projects while also bearing in mind that there is a clean energy transition going on at the moment, which requires nations to meet set targets. Many companies are competing to be selected to spearhead groundbreaking projects as they aim to gain financially and develop a reputation for successful project completion. On that note, Glenfarne recently gave approval for Kiewit Group to begin early construction activities at its Texas LNG export terminal.

Breaking down the association between Texas LNG and Glenfarne Group

Texas LNG is an LNG export facility to be constructed in the Port of Brownsville, Texas, and a subsidiary of global energy and infrastructure leader Glenfarne Group LLC. Texas LNG is led by an experienced team that is focused on establishing one of the cleanest, lowest-emitting LNG export facilities in the world through electric motor drives.

Glenfarne Group refers to a privately held global developer, owner, and operator of energy infrastructure assets. Through relying on its subsidiaries, the entity owns and operates 60 energy assets through three core businesses: Global LNG Solutions, Grid Stability, and Renewables.

Glenfarne’s permitted North American LNG portfolio reaches 32.8 MTPA of capacity under development in Alaska, Louisiana, and Texas. Having access to the Texas LNG terminal allows Glenfarne to execute groundbreaking initiatives that other companies without such infrastructure cannot.

Glenfarne gives permission to start early construction activities at one of its facilities

Glenfarne unveiled to the public that Texas LNG Brownsville LLC (Texas LNG), which is its subsidiary developing the Texas LNG export terminal at the Port of Brownsville, has provided the project’s Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) Contractor, Kiewit Energy Group Inc., with a Limited Notice to Proceed (LNTP).

The LNTP to Kiewit covers the purchase orders for long-lead equipment, engineering activities for the EPC phase, and geotechnical work needed to ready Texas LNG for full construction and a final investment decision (FID). The construction phase of projects is met with great positivity from the general public, who are anticipating the employment opportunities and economic gains associated with the project.

The announcement reflects a massive milestone for Glenfarne, which continues to make massive strides in advancing its clean energy portfolio. Brendan Duval, who is the Chief Executive Officer and Founder of Glenfarne stated the following:

“The LNTP work and purchase orders demonstrate the strength of the project’s world-class partner network and Glenfarne’s continued disciplined advancement of Texas LNG. By progressing key equipment, engineering, and site-readiness work during LNTP, we are maintaining project momentum.”

Understanding the relationship between Glenfarne and Kiewit Energy

When companies have an extensive history of developing and executing projects, they are likely to be involved in further dealings that solidify their relationship. Texas LNG has executed a lump-sum turnkey EPC agreement with Kiewit and received Federal Energy Regulatory Commission authorization for construction and operation.

The LNTP purchase orders build on Texas LNG’s recent project milestones and support the project’s progress toward delivering reliable, lower-emission U.S. LNG to global markets. Energy industry enthusiasts believe that the project will be successful once again because of the previous success that the two entities have had.

A detailed analysis of the United States’ midstream energy sector

The midstream energy market outlook is greatly promising for the moment as it is driven by the growing demand for natural gas and the increasing importance of energy security. Natural gas is receiving tremendous attention, displaying its resilience and growing importance in the global energy mix.

The United States is expected to hit a record high of 118 billion cubic feet per day by 2026, with consumption going up to 91.4 billion cubic feet per day this year.

Glenfarne has been at the heart of many projects that have shaped the midstream sector. In 2026, the entity is still vying to be a pioneer.
