India has seen tremendous progress in advancing the standing of the renewable energy sector in recent years as the nation aims to diversify its energy portfolio. Aligning with the nation’s clean energy and emission targets, the Kajra solar project has been commissioned, supplying 185 MW of essential energy to the country’s national grid. Battery plus solar projects have become the latest must-have energy project for the progressive nations of the world.
The latest solar-plus-storage project in India has been commissioned
The Bihar State Power Generation Company has officially commissioned the first phase of the 301 MW/495 MWh solar-plus-storage project in Kajra, exemplifying India’s development plans for the renewable energy market.
The latest renewable energy project in India is being executed in two phases. The first initial phase includes commissioning a 185 MW/254 MWh solar-plus-battery storage project, estimated to cost upwards of $200 million.
The second phase will see BSPBCL developing a 116 MW/241 project, which will cost the developer an estimated $117 million. The developer awarded the relevant engineering, procurement, and construction contracts to Larsen and Tourbo Renewables.
“Solar energy is the only form of energy that is truly sustainable and renewable,” – Mahatma Gandhi
India has become the latest Asian nation to advance the standing of the renewable energy market as nations aim to meet clean energy and emission reduction targets outlined by the international community and committed to by the vast majority of nations around the world.
The latest solar-plus-storage development project in India will be executed in two phases
Phase 1 has established a sizable area of land for the development of the project. Hithium Energy Storage supplied the relevant battery storage system for the Kajra project and has been working with officials to commission the project.
The power generated by the project will be delivered to the 132 kV switchyard and will then be connected to the national grid via the existing state transmission line. Under the initial development plan, the first phase of the project will see the design life for the solar panels reaching an astonishing 25 years, with the BESS components lasting up to 12 years.
Phase 2 for the Kajra project is now advancing thanks to a new order by L&T
Larsen and Tourbo Renewables placed an order with Lineage Power of around $22 million for 275,825 kWh of BESS across 55 integrated LiFePO4 liquid-cooling containers for the development of phase 2 of the project.
Under Phase 2 of the project, the BESS system must deliver a maximum power of 50.5 MW for four hours at the very least. With the initial phase 1 development having now been completed, the developer has noted that Phase 2 is expected to be commissioned in January 2027.
As the world intensifies the integration of renewable energy, India is aiming to become a regional leader in the adoption and promotion of clean energy projects to meet the exceedingly high expectations of the global community.
Now that does not necessarily mean the nation is giving up on conventional energy projects; in fact, far from it. HPCL Rajasthan Refinery is advancing the expansion of its petrochemical production ambitions in India.
India has set some ambitious clean energy requirements for its market
India is just the latest nation to develop its solar-plus-storage portfolio. Several nations have expressed similar ambitions to enter the solar energy market, leading to a wave of new solar energy projects across the world. India stands at the precipice of change as the nation sees several new solar projects being commissioned, such as the new solar project being developed by Waaree Renewable Technology. The world has become acutely aware of the need to end the generational reliance on fossil fuel-based energy production in favor of more clean energy projects.
