Solar power may have met its match with a new innovative 100 kW flyer that can hover above your home while delivering power for your needs. The KiteKraft is a new wind turbine that operates autonomously in the sky and has no need for large and cumbersome structures on the ground, which has been a major issue for the wind power sector. For far too long, we have been unable to make significant progress in improving the wind turbine, but now, thanks to this innovative creation, the world has seen through the smoke and envisioned a future where every home has a wind turbine hovering above their roofs, delivering power at a fraction of what it costs at the moment.

Wind power has seen heavy pushback from several countries in recent years

Wind farms are seen as huge structures that put a damper on the beautiful landscapes where they often need to operate. Which has slowed progress in the sector. Even the President of the United States, Donald Trump, has made several statements regarding the negative effect wind turbines have on the landscape, claiming that not only are they an eyesore, but they are killing birds and whales. He even went so far as to claim that wind turbines cause cancer.

All those claims by President Trump are not backed up with any evidence. But public perception and opinion count for a lot in modern-day society. In order to silence the naysayers, more innovation was needed in the sector, and now one company has heard the call and developed something truly remarkable: a wind turbine that hovers effortlessly above your home.

A German startup has produced the KiteKRAFT, and it is simply magical

Perhaps magical is not an accurate word to use. Astonishing sounds a bit better. The German startup has been working on the idea for a few years and recently completed its first test, where the KiteKRAFT was able to reach an impressive output of 100 kW at 20 m/s (maximum tested wind speed). That is a great return on the initial investment made by several partners and organizations aiming at making the KiteKRAFT a norm in our skies.

That indicated power output of 100 kW at 20 m/s is not a finite number; it depends on the indicated wind speed at the time of testing. We suspect even better numbers if the wind speed is higher, enabling the KiteKRAFT to deliver even better results at a fraction of the costs currently associated with energy production. The 2-meter-wide prototype wind kite generates energy by adjusting itself to the best possible position to absorb all that yummy wind power.

“We are proud to have gotten to this point in just over a year since founding the company.” – co-founder and CTO Florian Bauer

The cofounder was also asked about the speculation around what effect the KiteKRAFT would have on the local animal life, and responded with a calm and measured response, which demonstrates the company’s commitment to making the KiteKRAFT a viable form of energy production.

“That’s why we will probably implement a protection system soon. The kite will go into standby automatically in the presence of a flock of birds, and will resume collecting energy after it passes.”

Can the German startup become the global leader in the wind power sector

The Germans seem to love the advantages of wind power, bolstered by the recent announcement of the “mother of all wind farms”. So it would appear that wind power is becoming a sustainable energy solution for the world to consider. The world is fast approaching a future without the need to rely on fossil fuels, which has not been the kindest form of energy production on the planet. And with resources dwindling as the energy needs of the world increase, more projects like the KiteKRAFT will serve humanity well.
