The energy industry is ever-evolving, which is a huge reason why companies are eager to capitalize on the current state and generate as much revenue as they can. Nowadays, larger companies are investing millions of dollars to purchase smaller entities with the overall aim of ensuring they have a wider portfolio. The United States wind energy landscape experienced some challenges in the latter part of 2025 when the Trump Administration prematurely halted projects that were already underway. As of late, Ardian acquired full ownership of the 460 MW Horse Creek and Electra wind portfolio in Texas.

A background overview of Ardian as a leading wind energy company

There is a variety of companies that are vying to become pioneers in the wind energy sector, which is not an easy feat considering how competitive and oversaturated the sector is. Ardian is a company that stands out for its unique ability to anticipate, adapt, and turn challenges into opportunities.

As a global, diversified private markets firm with 22 offices and more than 350 investment professionals worldwide, the company provides investment and customized solutions that represent new economic dynamics and assist clients in staying resilient. The company has developed a reputation for delivering multi-local expertise and long-term performance for its investors and partners.

Ardian currently manages or advises $200bn for more than 1,920 clients globally across Private Equity, Real Assets, and Credit. A press release from Ardian revealed that MEAG, on behalf of Munich Re, has completed the sale of its minority interest in the Horse Creek and Electra wind farms in Texas to Ardian.

There has been a lot of attention placed on the latest purchase because it marks the successful conclusion of an investment that MEAG has managed since 2017. The wind farms involved, Horse Creek and Electra, are two operational onshore facilities that are located in Texas, with a combined installed capacity of 460 MW.

The assets contribute renewable energy generation within the ERCOT power market and have been in operation since 2016. MEAG is the asset manager of Munich Re Group. It works closely with Munich Re Group companies in Europe, Asia, and North America, which increases its ability to generate even more revenue by taking advantage of global relationships.

MEAG currently manages assets of roughly EUR 374bn, including about EUR 63bn for non-Group. Wind energy facilities went from facing criticism for being prone to intermittency issues to becoming one of the most profitable renewable energy sectors.

The parties involved in the agreement are looking forward to what it can bring to the entities in the future. For MEAG officials, the sale of its interests in Horse Creek and Electra represents the company’s disciplined approach to active portfolio management. Olivia Genereux, Director, Infrastructure at Ardian, stated the following:

“We thank MEAG for a constructive and collaborative partnership over the years. Consolidating full ownership of Horse Creek and Electra gives us the platform and flexibility to execute the next phase of our asset management plan to unlock their full potential. We look forward to the next chapter for these assets and to their continued role in one of the most dynamic power markets in the U.S.”

Looking ahead: Ardian among the pioneers of the wind sector’s next evolution

In the latest agreement, Holland & Knight served as MEAG’s legal advisor on the transaction. Santander was the financial advisor, while Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP and McGuireWoods LLC were legal counsel to Ardian.

Ardian was formed in 1996, and throughout its existence, it has maintained a pioneering approach to diversification and offering tailor-made solutions at scale. The company’s extensive knowledge and technology mean that it is able to bring lasting value to its companies and contribute to the whole industry.
