The United States has, for a long time, been primarily focused on advancing its nuclear energy landscape and because of that, there is an abundance of companies that are emerging as global leaders. According to reports, the U.S. generates over 770 terawatt-hours (TWh) annually via its commercial fleet, which is responsible for almost 20% of the nation’s power. The nuclear sector has benefited massively from the integration of technology into the energy industry because of the stronger possibilities that developers now have. Among the noteworthy companies is Elementl Power which recently announced plans for up to 1.5 GW of advanced nuclear generation capacity in southeast Ohio.

Assessing the overall global landscape of nuclear energy production

The United States as the outright leader of nuclear energy, possesses 90 operable reactors. China is recognized as the fastest-growing producer globally, while France represents the European continent as a country that depends greatly on nuclear energy.

Elementl Power is a company founded in 2022 that views itself as a technology-agnostic advanced nuclear project developer which seeks to provide turn-key development, financing, and ownership solutions for customers that are looking for clean baseload power but may not be willing to own or operate nuclear power assets.

It is interesting to note that the company has achieved such great success despite not fully adopting the popular strategies followed by companies to execute energy initiatives.

Assessing the key elements behind Elementl Power’s success in the nuclear sector

Elementl Power is particularly known for its high-profile collaboration with tech powerhouse, Google, with the entity announcing in May of 2025 that it was set to supply capital for Elemetl Power in preparation for three upcoming projects. When a company becomes affiliated with other huge entities such as Google, then it is clear that they are adopting good strategies.

In its three sponsored projects, the company was aiming to generate about 600 MW of capacity in each one of them. For Google, the main intention of its involvement in the partnership is to source 24/7 baseload energy to support operations and enhance power grids.

In continuing its momentum, Elementl Power announced that it has signed an Early Works Agreement with GE Vernova Hitachi Nuclear Energy to use its BWRX-300 small modular reactors for an upcoming project in Meigs County, in southeast Ohio.

The company has already made a considerable amount of progress in this initiative with reports suggesting that it has agreed to acquire the 700-acre site 100 miles southeast of Columbus and filed a request with PJM Interconnection to connect the site to the regional transmission system for the initial 600 MW of output.

Assessing the specific details of Elementl Power’s upcoming project in Ohio

According to information provided by the company, its plan is for the plant to have a capacity of 1.5 GW which is equal to five of the BWRX-300 small modular reactors. Although some people are already looking forward to the potential benefits of the project, it is not expected to start construction until 2030 with the first unit set to be completed in 2034.

One of the main strategies followed by Elementl Power is only agreeing to partnerships that quicken the financing and delivery of reliable, clean, and consistent nuclear power. In this instance, it is working with GE Vernova Hitachi which is another powerhouse.

Looking ahead: How Elementl Power can revolutionize nuclear production

The position that the United States is in means that its companies are perfectly positioned to lead and create blueprints for how the nuclear sector can advance. Director of Meigs County Economic Development Office Chase Jenkins said:

“Meigs County recognizes the significant opportunity that Elementl’s proposed project represents for our region’s long-term energy future. We support continued exploration of this development and look forward to engaging with the community, state leaders, and project partners as plans take shape.”

Elementl Power’s objective is to deploy over 10 gigawatts of next-generation nuclear power in the United States by 2035. This is an achievable feat.
