The United States is enjoying an abundance of solar energy projects in 2026 as the nation is aiming to meet all its clean energy objectives. China and the United States remain the leading solar energy-producing countries in the world with the two powerhouses showing intentions to maintain their position. There is an ongoing trend in the energy industry where solar companies are collaborating with technology entities. In continuation of this, Sabanci and Meta support the development of a 286 MWdc utility-scale solar project in Texas.

Sabanci and Meta collaborate for the development of a solar facility in Texas

California is still the largest solar-producing state in the United States by a massive margin despite the nation’s attempts to increase the capacity throughout. The state possesses over 25 gigawatts (GW) of utility-scale solar capacity. Texas has received a tremendous amount of attention in recent years because it is rapidly expanding its clean energy footprint, as it ranks in second place behind California.

Sabanci is the latest company to advance the solar energy capacity in the state of Texas. The company operates over 34 power plants with an installed capacity of 4GW. It is in the middle of expanding its footprint in Turkey, Europe, and the United States. The clean energy powerhouse has, on this occasion, decided to partner with one of the most recognizable companies in Meta.

Meta is a multinational technology conglomerate that is headquartered in Menlo Park, California. It was founded in 2004 as Facebook by Mark Zuckerberg but has grown to become an extremely wealthy company.

Assessing how Sabanci and Meta aim to develop a 286 MWdc utility-scale facility

The United States is in a unique position as it has set the bar very high when it comes to the delivery of clean energy initiatives. As such, developers have a tremendous amount of pressure to execute projects accordingly and in a way that maintains the nation’s position as a leader.

In this case, Sabanci Renewables announced that it has entered into a long-term Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Meta for 100% of the environmental attributes from its 100 MWac/130 MWdc Lucky 7 Solar and 120 MWac/156 MWdc Pepper Solar projects in Texas with a total capacity of 220 MWac/286 MWdc.

Energy companies have recognized the true value of partnerships because of how they allow businesses to share the financial risks associated with delivering projects. Additionally, companies have found that it is much more beneficial for them to work at a faster pace if they have partners who are able to complement them effectively.

There are expectations that the two initiatives will reach completion in the second half of 2027 and become part of Sabanci Renewables’ growing utility-scale renewable energy portfolio in the U.S.

Assessing the local and economic impacts of the Lucky 7 and Pepper Solar projects

Among the reasons why the general population get behind solar energy projects is because of just how much they positively affect the economic landscape of a certain area. In this instance, the Lucky 7 and Pepper Solar projects are anticipated to contribute to local communities by opening over 600 jobs during construction, operation, and generating about $30 million in total property tax revenues.

Understanding the significance of the two projects to the United States

Following the finalization of the PPA, there is great optimism about what is to come from the partnership. Tolga Kaan Doğancıoğlu who is the Strategic Investments and Operations President of Sabanci Group, stated the following:

“Entering into a long-term renewable energy agreement with Meta is an important step for Sabanci Renewables as we continue to grow our presence in the United States. For Sabanci Renewables, it also marks another strategic milestone in our U.S. market journey and reinforces our focus on building durable partnerships.”

Industry experts have been pointing out that there is a need for reliable energy infrastructure in the state of Texas. Sabanci and Meta have helped provide a solution to this persistent issue.
