The 3rd annual Oil & Gas Automation and Technology Week took place at the Hyatt Regency, Houston, on 14-15 February 2023, and was a valuable opportunity for collaboration across the industry. The event saw 202 attendees unite to debate and discuss the latest strategies and technologies to successfully enhance their digital transformation journey.

48 expert speakers shared their insights alongside 20 sponsors demonstrating their solutions to an engaged crowd of oil and gas decision makers. Specialists from Shell, Enbridge, ExxonMobil, Phillips 66, LyondellBasell, Chevron, Covestro, and Magellan Midstream gained advice, strategies, and solutions to streamline their operations, improve efficiency, and successfully embrace emerging technologies.

The two day summit comprised 14 expert presentations, 22 collaborative roundtables, 16 tech demos, and 2 engaging panel discussions. The Director of Commercial Business Improvement and Optimization at Phillips 66 called it “A great pool of attendees and speakers from across the industry, some brilliant work from solid vendor sponsors, and an excellent forum to explore, enable, and advance potential the world over.”

Presentations featured insights into digital innovation, situational awareness software, open process automation, energy transition, and decarbonization, with expert speakers from Western Midstream, Hexagon, Wazoku, Shell Energy, and more sharing their strategies and use cases for emerging technology.

The technology demonstrations proved particularly popular, enabling attendees to take a hands-on approach to the solutions driving digital transformation in the industry, including software in IoT, simulation, data analysis, cloud, AI, communications systems, and more. Sponsors Bently Nevada, TruQC, Voovio, Wazoku, VEERUM, Magellan X, Optelos, Foxguard Solutions, Yokogawa, Twenty20 Solutions, Process Innovations/ACI Services, Bifrost, NOKIA, Hyde Park West Telecommunications, and hifi showcased their innovative technologies to the eager audience.

The collaborative roundtable discussions were highly anticipated by attendees. Thought leaders from Dow, Enbridge, The Lubrizol Corporation, Clean Planet Energy, and Chevron, to name a few, moderated both interesting and strategic discussions between attendees looking for solutions to their organization’s digitalization challenges, with 100% of attendees agreeing the presenters were informative, well experienced, and technically experienced.

One of the most popular sessions was focused on Driving Continuous Digital Evolution, led by Luke Skaarup, Director of Operations Services at Enbridge, which drove passionate conversations on how operators can make incremental changes towards digitalization. Other discussions presented challenges on stakeholder engagement, capital project planning, IIoT for worker health and safety, ML and data science projects, and more, as attendees bounced their thoughts, insights, and strategies on the topic across the floor to give an impressive holistic approach to digital transformation within the industry.

“I enjoyed the open discussion and hearing the different perspectives that were shared. Very engaging!” Senior Account Executive, AIM Consulting Group

“Excellent content, distinguished speakers, a wide range of exhibitors bringing innovative tools, and last but not least, engaging interaction on various relevant topics with peers in the energy industry.” Data and Analytics SME, Shell

Finally, the panel discussions closing each day of the summit drove discussions between attendees and the panel on digital transformation and strategy, and our digital future. It was a valuable opportunity to hear how digitalization is being implemented by leading operators, inspiring the audience’s future strategies, and allowing them to predict future challenges of these initiatives. With 66% of our attendees claiming they were planning to invest in their next digital projects within 6 months, these conversations across the range of sessions were crucial to their development plans.

As Oil & Gas Automation and Technology Week 2023 draws to a close, AMG World’s Managing Director, Mark Giles shared: “We would like to thank all our event speakers, sponsors, and attendees for contributing to these strategic discussions by sharing their personal experiences, showcasing emerging technologies, and taking a forward-thinking approach to the industry’s digital transformation. We look forward to continuing to facilitate these critical conversations at our upcoming virtual and in-person events.”
