In the energy industry, companies that have the most resources and expertise in executing certain initiatives are likely at the forefront of many projects on a worldwide basis. The Asian continent is well respected for its success in the wind energy sector, with China being the outright leading producing country and Japan being among the top nations. As such, companies based in China have the freedom to expand and pursue projects in a variety of countries, especially within Africa, considering the lack of resources there. On that note, Envision and AMEA Power move ahead with the development of a 500 MW wind energy project in Egypt.

Envision and AMEA Power collaborate for a groundbreaking project

Companies have discovered that collaborations are the most guaranteed way to manage the finances and risks associated with energy projects. Envision Energy, founded in 2007 and headquartered in Shanghai, China, is a world-leading green technology company and net-zero partner.

The company is specifically focused on complete energy transformation by providing smart wind turbines, battery energy storage systems (BESS), and green hydrogen solutions. Wind and solar facilities have previously received a tremendous amount of criticism because of their association with intermittency issues caused by the fact that there is no way to guarantee the availability of sunlight or wind on a consistent basis throughout the year.

As such, companies have found a way to overcome this challenge by combining energy generation and storage. AMEA, on the other hand, is a rapidly growing developer and operator of renewable projects, which is headquartered in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

A collaboration between powerhouses: The 500 MW wind energy project coming to Egypt

When two companies of AMEA and Envision Energy’s stature decide to combine, their main aim is to complement each other and provide services that neither can on its own. In the middle of the Africa Energy Forum (AEF) 2026, Envision Energy announced the finalization of its agreement with AMEA Power for the Amunet II 500 MW wind project in Egypt.

In the continent of Africa, South Africa is the nation with the most installed capacity, with Egypt and Morocco ranking second and third respectively. These three nations are able to reach international agreements with foreign developers, considering that they already have a good foundation for wind development and suitable regions.

To some, the announcement came as a surprise. Still, the majority of industry experts felt it was inevitable following the successful commissioning of AMEA Power’s 500 MW wind power plant in Ras Ghareb, Egypt, in June 2025. Through this facility, AMEA Power was able to develop the largest wind farm in Africa, which only inspired the entity to execute more projects.

Assessing the success of Envision and AMEA Power in delivering past projects

Envision and AMEA Power have a lengthy history of delivering projects in collaboration with each other, meaning they have a good understanding. The partnership also brought the Ras Ghareb plant. Through the project, Envision Energy was able to emphasize investor confidence in the bankability and scalability of large-scale renewable energy facilities.

Amunet II marks the second utility-scale wind project in Egypt but the general feeling is that there are many more to come in the near future. After its completion, Envision Energy’s combined wind power capacity in Egypt will elevate to 1GW making it integral to the country’s overall transition toward a cleaner environment.

A general overview: Egypt aims to be the leading wind energy country

Kane Xu who is the Senior Vice President of Envision Energy, stated the following:

“The project demonstrates the scalability of our partnership model and the value of global collaboration in advancing the energy transition. Today, Egypt is increasingly playing a key role in the global energy transition.”

The 500 MW Ras Ghareb wind project is a representation of what collaboration can achieve. The two entities may be looking to expand throughout Africa in the near future.
